LOS ANGELES: Young Pakistani students used Nanotechnology to clean polluted water and won Third Place Grand Award at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in the United States.
An announcement here on Saturday said that Ambreen Bibi and Mehwish Ghafoor of Islamabad won a Third Place Grand Award in the field of Environmental Sciences.
It said that they received the award and $ 1,000 for developing a treatment that utilizes nanotechnology to make polluted water drinkable.
Matthew Feddersen and Blake Marggraff from Lafayette, California were awarded the top prize. They received $ 75,000 and the Gordon E. Moore Award for developing a potentially more effective and less expensive cancer treatment that places tin metal near a tumor before radiation therapy.
Taylor Wilson from Reno, Nevada, was named an Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award winner and received $50,000. Taylor developed one of the lowest dose and highest sensitivity interrogation systems for countering nuclear terrorism.
We champion the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair because we believe that math and science are imperative for innovation, said Naveed Siraj, Country Manager, Intel Pakistan.
This global competition features youth trying to solve the worlds most pressing challenges through science.
This year more than 1,500 young entrepreneurs, innovators and scientists were selected to compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair, the worlds largest high school science research competition.

Its a gd news......
But if 75,000$ for toper
50,000$ for the 2nd position
Then it should be 25,000$ for 3rd prize holder..... y only 1000$

it has nothing to do with 1000 Dollar, aik to pakistani jub bhi dollar dekhta hey na, Calcultor per calculate karnay baat jata hey,

its a 3rd Prize win that is more important that DOLLARS. Forget the 25K or 100K calculation,

you have to proud that your sister win 3rd position

The creation of a separate independent Muslim state out of the British India is greatly indebted to none other than Dr Sir Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who was the first person to give out the idea of creation of Pakistan and then persuaded Muhammad Ali Jinnah to leave the All India Congress, join All India Muslim League and lead the Muslim struggle towards the final destination – PAKISTAN. For this alone, he is commonly known as “Mufakkar-e-Pakistan”, the Thinker of Pakistan and “Hakeem-ul-Ummat” (“The Sage of Ummah”). However, Iqbal did not live to see the creation of an independent Pakistan as he passed away in 1938, but perhaps much contended to have stirred up the movement for independence. For his vision and support to the creation of Pakistan, he is considered to be the “spiritual father” of Pakistan.

Allama Muhammad Iqbal is one of the most outstanding poet-philosophers of the Indian sub-continent belonging to the modern period. His intellectual genius has reigned supreme in the arena of Islamic philosophy during the twentieth century and is likely to direct and influence the Islamic Intellectual tradition in the twenty first century as well. His sublime poetry and philosophy inspired millions of Muslims to wake up to the reality of the times and forge a destiny for themselves.

He was born at Sialkot (present Pakistan) on Friday, November 9, 1877 of a pious family of small merchants. People across Pakistan and Pakistanis around the globe are celebrating 9th November, 2009 as the 132nd Birth Anniversary of Allama Iqbal. Today as we pay homage to Dr. Iqbal, PYO would like share some qualities of Jawan in the eyes of Iqbal.

Iqbal has explained, at great length, that the apex of Muslim Nojwans was not merging with Allah but submitting oneself to His Will and service in the wider sense. The Muslim Nojwans are the potent hand as well as the Word of the Eternal Allah.
