KARACHI: A Pakistani court Tuesday dismissed a petition to ban Indian movies after the country's players were snubbed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Mumbai in January.

The Lahore High Court ruled that the IPL's decision to ignore Pakistani players was a move by a private company.

Justice Waqar Hasan, who heard the case, said he does not find any reason to ban Indian movies since it was a decision of private franchises.

A private petitioner wanted Indian movies to be banned in Pakistani cinemas after none of the 11 Pakistani players was picked in the IPL auction.

IPL franchisees decided against signing up any Pakistani cricketers for the third edition of the lucrative Twenty20 league in spite of the fact that Pakistan is the reigning World Twenty20 champion. The move ignited a strong reaction in Pakistan.

But the franchisees said their decision was based on commercial considerations as they were not sure the Pakistani players would be available for all IPL matche

Retaliatory bans on soft and hard product from India should be the rule/policy of the Govt, not the courts. But we all know not expect anything from the cowards and shayateens in Islamabad

yeah its the same as ostretch stick its head inside the sand when see a threat or a pigion closes its eyes when see an attaking cat....

If there are some bad guys standing all the day in front of your door and watch and shout at your family with bad intentions, and you say to your family "ohhh ignore them they are dirty worms etc etc"......

the point is its not always about ignoring things and let everybody do what they want... at some points you have to draw a line....

Courts do not make judgement based on newspaper, tv, net, clipping or even govt news. They do based on the evidence presented. And in this case the petitioner may not have done a good job in presenting his case. Just like Moulvi Iqbal haider in case of his petitions agains eligibility of Zardari a couple of days ago

98 % of Pakistani ( Including you president and PM) watch Indian movie. If you really don't like that then you are in minority in your own country and you know how minority is being treated in your country..lol

I think that if the case had been pleaded citing the nudity,vulgarity,profanity and morally and ethicaly unacceptable standard of indian movies according to Pakistan's standard the court would be better able to make a judgement on the case.

All these points must have surely come up at the hearing, you should not have any doubts about that. In fact these points have been discussed in your parliament and tv shows, but nothing came out it due to fierce opposition from the movie fans.

For once be truthful and accept you people cannot live without Hindi movies and nothing wrong with that. But I know you won't like to accept this on a public forum more so now that you are a moderator. It seems anything related to bollywood is against siasat.pk policies as I had posted a seemingly harmless article a day or two back in guppshup, but till now it has not been approved. BTW I do agree that most of the movies are waste of time.

Haha.... you spend $1 on each Dvd for all the latetst Hindi movies in Canada, enjoy with your family sitting on a couch singing filmy songs
and advocate ban in pakistan. I bet you have also subscribed Hindi movie channels from Rogers cable.

Very good point. Pakistani movie does not have any takers in Pakistan.On Last Eid, none of the Pakistani movie released in Pakistan because of the Indian Movie. How do you justify??

I am sure you have watched them and that is how you know the comparison!
Unfortunately there are some but very few in Pakistan who have the same mental level as you have in the bollywoods overwhelming majority.

I DO NOT watch Indian movies, daughters have stopped watching too due to gandagi. They only watch when their Indian gf come over some times. I let them watch that in their room on dvd players. I do watch only selected songs on you tube, but mostly Pak movies. I cant remember when was the last time I have watched an Indian movie. May be in 1972 in kathmandu, film Dosti I think

We do not have Roger cable subscription.
