It seems that the US is “planning” a “prediction” for an attack on Pakistani Nuclear facilities.
As expected the US newspapers have begun to harp on the possibility of an attack on Pakistani Nuclear sites. Let the other shoe fall. This has been a prediction of the die-hard Pakistanphobes in the administration. Whether it is a prediction or a plan remains to be seen. The Pakistani military is expecting the worse, and was ready to throw out the US military—the US retaliated by the so called raid on Abbottabad. After Admiral Mullen’s statements the relations between the two countries have again taken a nose dive. Pakistan is refusing to take possession of US military equipment and Washington is holding back reimbursement for services rendered. This is a bad omen on both sides. If the US doesn’t clear up the arrears, Islamabad is inclined to withdraw the troops from the Afghan border and redeploy them to the Eastern front. This will quieten down the tribals and create colossal problems for America in Afghanistan.
The America relationship with Pakistan is fraught with anxiety and danger on both sides. The US press carries on this constant drum beat about Pakistani nukes. The more the US eyes them, the deeper they are hidden.
Pakistan developed nuclear weapons in the 1980s as a reaction to Bharat’s Smiling Buddha Nuclear test. It carried out its first underground nuclear tests in 1998 a week after Bharat’s overt explosions. It now has more than 350 nukes hidden from America eyes. Pakistanis want a potent deterrent to any and all external attacks from any quarter.
Pakistan’s original program was based on locally mined Uranium. Unlike Bharat, Islamabad does not have to go to the Nuclear Suppliers Group to get basic raw materials for the bomb. Pakistan has mines of Uranium which it can get from its own soil. To build more potent weapons and to miniaturize its existing weapons it needs Plutonium the core explosive material in its tactical nuclear weapons. Its an open secret that Pakistan’s leaders are building three new reactors that produce plutonium.
The Americans never wanted Pakistan to have nukes–the wanted Bharat to have them. Pakistan’s nukes are a sore subject for Washington–it tried tooth and nail to prevent the nuclearization of Pakistan, and now wants to denuclearize it.
More than 30,000 soldiers protect the nukes in varying circles of security. Those who point to the nuclear security of Pakistan must be reminded that a bunch of cave dwellers able to attack the head quarters of the most powerful military on earth. Pakistan has worked very hard to secure these weapons and the complex infrastructure that spawns them.
For decades, Pakistanis have eyed the US with suspicion–prepared for a crisis (real of manufactured) in which the U.S. might try to seize its nuclear bombs. Since the bin Laden raid the Pakistanis have dispersed the nukes into deep bunkers away from prying satellite eyes.
The New York times is now quoting another analysts that “is willing to go so far as to predict an attack on a nuclear weapons site — soon”. This sort of externally supported attack
Based on the New York Times report it seems that in some quarters a real breach of Pakistan’s Nuclear facilities are being planned. This is Islamabad’s worst fear and augments the suspicion against the CIA.
The attack on PNS Mehran was conducted by foreigners and it considered a dry run to an attack on Pakistani nukes. This would give the US an excuse to ramrod a resolution giving the UN Security Council a reason to intervene and attempt to take control of Pakistan’s nukes. The Pakistani fears about US intentions surfaced when the CIA agent Raymond Davis was arrested for the murder of two Pakistanis. His cell phone revealed a lot of secrets.
