ISLAMABAD: Google officially denied the accuracy of its search trends that declared Pakistan as the top nation searching for illicit material on the internet, according to Dawn sources.

Internet Service Provider Association of Pakistan has also declared statistics regarding pornography in Pakistan as flawed.

Earlier based on these findings, a number of foreign newspapers and websites started humiliating Pakistani nation and even maligned the country’s name.

Referring to the news about illicit search trends in Pakistan, Google’s public affairs head of South-East Asia said that the statistics were based on limited data therefore they cannot be regarded as final opinion.

There are eight million users of internet in Pakistan which makes only five per cent of the country's total population. — DawnNews

No statistics are provide, Pakistan is just placed on top of the list. Out of total population, How many have the access to Internet, How much time they spend on Internet (keep in mind the long hours of load shading) and how much time is spent on porn sites.

This is absolutely preposterous, how one can believe this, how many people in Pakistan have access to the internet and how many of them will be looking pornography. In countries like Iran and Algeria internet is under very strict control of the government again I would say this report is utterly absurd.

It actually goes by percentage of users using the internet having said that i also believe its absurd it came on fox news and then picked up by Indian media.

Exactly, the first thing one must consider that its FOX news network , same network was involved in making propaganda about IRAQ holding WMD's. ISLAMABAD The FOXNews report - quoting Google - that Pakistan is at No 1 in using porn sites at the Internet is false and showed inaccurate data when it comes to identifying searches from various regions, said Pakistans Internet association.

There are 1.5 to 1.8 billion Internet users worldwide and Pakistan has only 5 to 8 million Internet users, less than 0.5% of global users and Internet penetration is less than 5% of total population, Wahajus Siraj, spokesman for Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan (ISPAK), said in a statement issued here on Friday.

The FOXNews story refers to Google Insights and Google Trends, he said, adding, Google Trends shows the searches coming from countries as well as their cities. In some searches like how to make bomb, New Zealand ranks No 1 and one of its cities is at No 2. This shows that if a country is ranking number one in a global search, some its cities should also be among top ranking cities. But if someone searched horse sex as reported in the story, Pakistan is at the top whereas none of Pakistani city is among the top ten. Similarly if someone tries all other words reported in the story, Pakistan comes on top but its cities dont come on the top 10. This means that this data is badly managed and fabricated.

He said that if one goes to Google Insight and uses key porn words as mentioned in the story, Pakistan comes on the top. But if word optical fiber is typed, Pakistan also comes at No 2. Not many Internet users even know what fiber optic means and have little interest in it. Similarly, if word missile is typed, Pakistan again comes on the top. For word nuclear, Pakistan is on top again. For word laser printer, Pakistan is on sixth ranking and for wimax, Pakistan is on 4th number.

Anyone having little knowledge can understand that not many Pakistanis would be using these sophisticated and high tech searches. This means that data and analysis of Google is false and not correct.

Now if someone is searching Google for a particular porn website, the user must be viewing that site. If websites with key words reported in the FOX story are searched in the Google and then their names are matched from the Googles own record of users accessing that site from a particular country, those websites are not accessed from Pakistan but from the USA and other countries.

The data from another renowned ranking site, alexa.com, that ranks top sites accessed from a country does not show any pornographic site among top 40 websites frequently accessed from Pakistan.Top website accessed from Pakistan is Google, followed by Youtube, Facebook and others.

Siraj said: We demand an immediate apology from FOXNews for exploiting the data to let 170 million Pakistani people down as part of wicked campaign against Pakistan and also from Google on showing these wrong statistics and to correct its indexing.

I think the report is exxarated if not false.Internet is very new in Pakistan especelly broadband internet.Whenever there is resrictions in society there is curiosity and it is natural there is nothing to worry about.

Not to dampen your enthusiasm and criticise my nation for this unwanted act of toping the evil, I do hereby recognize and say that this is an emerging problem in Pakistan indeed. We all have to open our eyes a bit and take this news with some grain of salt but also not to ignore this as a real problem either. The IT industry in Pakistan started up witn these Icaffees and almost all who go there for the chit chat also know that guys from our yonge generation sit there hours exploring the net and it is not a secret that what kind of web sites have been surfed by majority of the surfers. Even though, it is not really a majority in a sense of the totall population( since not everyone goes to the net) but I bet you majority of these surfers are indulging in to these x rated sites.Now, someone posed a very valid question that instead of blaming x,y and z , we should look in to ourselves first. That is true to some extend.But, one the name of freedom and free worlds access to everyone, on a government level, the responsibilty lies with the Government to implement and improve the laws which deals with this kind of voulgarity to our new generations. There is also a responsibilty of our families and parents to step in and stop it on the first site, but if none of this trash is avaialble as a free material, none of those who explore it would continue to do so.There is a society abligations and there is also an individual family obligations. Both of them can't be ignored.

Fox News published a report on Pakistan and refereed to it as Pornistan claiming that it is No. 1 Nation in Sexy Web Searches.

Google officially denied the accuracy of its search trends that declared Pakistan as the top nation searching for illicit material on the internet, reported Dawn News.


In an email sent to dawn.com, Therese Lim of Google communications and Public Affairs Southeast Asia team said,

We do our best to provide accurate data and to provide insights into broad search patterns, but the results for a given query, such as those reported in this story from Pakistan, may contain inaccuracies because the sample size is too small for the results to be statistically sound.

Internet Service Provider Association of Pakistan has also declared statistics regarding pornography in Pakistan as flawed.

Today Fox News published a report on Pakistan and refereed to it as Pornistan claiming that it is No. 1 Nation in Sexy Web Searches. Whatever keywords Fox News has mentioned are factual and not made-up.

I dont deny the fact that Pakistan ranks 1st on these keywords. I also dont deny the fact that porn is popular in Pakistan. However, I deny that Pakistan is No. 1 Nation in Sexy Web Searches as claimed by Fox News.

Pakistan is top dog in searches per-person for horse sex since 2004, donkey sex since 2007, rape pictures between 2004 and 2009, rape sex since 2004, child sex between 2004 and 2007 and since 2009, animal sex since 2004 and dog sex since 2005, according to Google Trends and Google Insights, features of Google that generate data based on popular search terms.

Its funny how the mentioned keywords are few of the least popular keywords when it comes to pornography. Below is the image of comparison of these keywords along with other major keywords related to pornography like sex, porn, big tits

If you have a look at the image, the search volume for keyword sex is FAAAR more than other keywords. Keyword Porn has the 2nd highest search volume. Followed by big tits and then there is this little search volume for rape sex and horse sex which you might spot with a magnifying glass.

Since we have an understanding that other keywords consume much largely to porn searches, lets now have a look at their traffic distribution.
