You are spot about about exaggeration on several Pakistani sites about the revenue FB earning just from Pakistan. I'm not sure what other methods fb uses to earn money but PAY PER CLICK definately is one of them.

My fellow Pakistani friends, please stop this hype about facebook, youtube, wikipedia etc. We have a lot of internal issues we need to fix before we can even think about bothering with these nonsensical issues..
This is a deliberate ploy by the government of Pakistan to distract you all from a grave issue we face i.e. the utter disregard of law by our beloved President, when he pardoned his good friend Rehman Malik . How is that not a bigger issue than a dumb facebook group ???? We all need to stand behind the judiciary and punish these NRO culprits. Think about it, why are we the only Muslim nation to ban these website in our country. Are we the most religious of them all ??? Well based on facts and figures, we are one of the most corrupt countries in the world so I doubt we believe in any of the principles of Islam. So why are we "trying" to be leaders of an issue which really is a non-issue. I am sure there are millions of kafirs doing things that are offensive to muslims or the Quran but we cant fight them all. There is a reason why they are called kafirs isnt it ? All the stories of the Prophet that I read in school taught me that we should ignore all this non-sense and not be reactive. Am I the only who is disturbed by the reaction ???
Please lets stand up against corruption, poverty , illiteracy and forget about these distractions that our beloved government is throwing at us to keep us occupied. We really should be doing something productive with all that emotion than waste it on 100,000 facebook users who are probably really enjoying all this publicity that they are getting.

brother be-rah-rawi is nott the appropriate word for fb, there r lot more other means like porn sites, cable etc dat r promoting volgarity n as u say be rah rawi. the thing is there shld be proper filters on data dat is being viewed in Pakistan on internet. i was adicted to fb n used to spend almost whole day on fb, but blocking of fb didnt make any difference to my life, i dun feel bad abt it, still i never found fb as a mean of be rah rawi type things

face book members belong to different religions n this is the responsibility of the face book admin to protect everyone's dignity n the respect of their religion..nooooooo community has the right to organize such events that are directly against other religions..lahore high court has done a fantastic n daring job...
Dont just negate without proof of your statement. I know enough how a website generates revenue. And how much even a single page impression (containing ads) can genereate revenue for such a site like facebook with billions of page impressions per day. I am not yet talking about the revenue from the clicks on the ads. I used only google ads on an unfamous web blog of my own and believe me, on a blog like mine with less than 100 visitirs per day, they even gave me 1 euro for one click. And I have not yet talked about the income facebook gets from the applications it allows on the site. There are hundreds of factors which specify a website for the rates of even displaying ads on the site. A few factors are pages indexed by search engines (and there are hundreds of search engines out there), pages referred from other sites etc. I agree that this loss may not be in billions but still its not ignorable. And if FB has 2 million users from pakistan (you can search it on google) and if each user only spends on it even 5 minutes, he is contributing hundreds of page impressions in these 5 minutes and you can multiply these page impressions with the number of users.
So, first spend some time in understanding how this web publishing works and then I would appreciate if you can add some precious information in my knowledge too. Have fun.

This is a fact that Americans are war with Islam and its their way to incite hatred by provoking muslims to react. I agree with the ban on facebook but it would be lifted sooner or later. The damage American propaganda has done to Pakistanis is broad-based and has been going on for years, a strategy should be devised to hurt these American media opportunists for long term, Americans have been using these propaganda outlets like CNN and Fox
News which has done far more damage to Pakistan and Pakistanis, if we can spearhead campaign to take CNN and Fox News off the airwaves in 60 countries including parts of Russia and China for a significant period, a better solution can come out or else these offenses will be repeated to cause depression and self-loath in muslims which is of more importance to them. This would heavily jolt them financially and then there won't be a need for these protests to take place.

banning few websites for blasphemy against islam is a step in right direction.but please realise that this is just one step.its not sufficient yet, and our religion demands much more from us.
like for example what kind of hypocrisy it is to ban one two sites on net but keeping support for americans war aginst islam!
pakistans government ,army and its people are full participants in americans war against islam which they deceptively label as war against terror.the fact is that in past decade no one has helped america more in killing muslims than pakistanis.
the american planes flew from pakistani airbases to attack iraq and afghanistan and so this nation helped in killing of millions of muslims by american hands.now the drone attacks are also taking place inside pakistan from air bases that are located inside pakistan
last week americans fired 27 missiles on a village in our tribal area!27! so many of our tribal women and children were massacred.
but even so called patriots like majeed nizaami fully support pakistani armys pro american actions....our so called patriotic and islamic people are also supporting americans war aginst islam directly or indirectly,as when we support our civil or army rulers we are actually supporting americans .as our leaders are front line weapons of kufar crusaders against islam.no one can deny that.so called muslims of pakistan cant escape allahs wrath by putting their heads in sand.what i have written above is nothing but truth

may be not all of you people know that last year when a denmark based cursed person made cartoons of prophet the talibans in afghanistan ordered their fighters to find denmark soldiers specifically and kill them in revenge for this.dozen or more denmark soldiers were killed in few days.and americans with help of pakistanis kill these taliban who dared to take revenge from kufars on this attack on honour of islam.
in islam the punishment of defaming our prophet is nothing but death....meek protests will do nothing.these cursed people will again make attacks on islam like they do now every month.

Facebook said Friday it has not taken any action on the page, which had attracted more than 100,000 users and encouraged users to post images of Islam's Prophet Muhammad, purportedly in support of freedom of speech.
Most Muslims regard any depiction of the prophet, even favorable ones, as blasphemous.
Najibullah Malik, the secretary at Pakistan's information technology ministry, said earlier Friday that the government had no option but to shut down Facebook on Wednesday after a court order to do so.
"We know some people are suffering because of this blockade, but we have to obey the court order in letter and spirit," Malik said.
Pakistan said it would consider restoring Facebook and other sites with related content only if they took down pages considered offensive to Islam.
There was no immediate word on whether the government was lifting the ban.
The Facebook page, called "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!," had declared Thursday as the day to draw Mohammed, so it was possible the creator took it down Friday because the page had served its purpose.
Other sites have also been affected in the country as officials scramble to block content related to the Facebook page. Wikipedia's English-language site and the Flickr photo-sharing site were also sporadically unavailable Friday.
It was not the first time depictions of the prophet have angered Muslims. In 2005, cartoons of Muhammad appeared in a Danish newspaper, sparking protests and riots from Muslims around the world, including in Pakistan, where the protests turned violent.
There have been several rallies against Facebook in recent days.

I was really offended by this "draw Muhammad day" thing. It is a deliberately crass insult to all Muslims. That said, I'm not sure I agree to the ban in its entirety. I simply cannot fathom what the idea behind it is. If one is offended by this whole thing, then all one has to do is NOT go on those pages. We don't need the government to ban access. We dont need the government to play nanny to us and say "Nono, you can't go on those sites, they have stuff there that's offensive and against Islam." Personally, i don't go on youtube or facebook anyway because so much of what's on those sites is frivolous or haraam. I don't need the govt to tell me that, and nor should any reasonable muslim.
Yes the page is removed but the point to be noted is that FB says it did not take any action against this page. So, previously I had just deactivated my account temporarily but today I have deleted it permanently. If some wants to know how to delete account permanently. Here is information how to do it.

Can you please share the list of these websites, so that I may confirm your point as I can access them being out of pakistan. If not, then I will consider it another addition to the conspiracy theories out there. (Believe me, I might be the last supporter of the current government.)
