The New Auto Policy of Pakistan is expected to drag down import duties by a whopping 80%. Yes all my fellow car lovers, finally a step is being taken to further rid us of the limitations that come with the Pakistani Auto Industry. The dismal condition of our faltering auto industry is no secret. The car financing system is grossly underdeveloped and the high prices of the cars limit options for a potential buyer.

The sky-rocketing and unjustified prices of cars manufactured by the Big 3 of the auto industry have taken us to the edge of the cliff. The Big 3 continue to rule over the auto industry and discourage competition from entering the market so as to keep the competition at bay and protect their overcharging practices. The new Auto Policy drafted by the automotive stakeholders proposes an 80% decrease in the import duties. This will drastically boost up the condition of the Auto Trading Industry of Pakistan.

Policy Proposal:The policy proposes that the new entrants will enjoy an 80% reduction in custom import duties for the next 5 years and the existing automakers will benefit for the next 2 years. The reforms in the Auto Policy include much needed additions such as:1) New designs of the car models have to be introduced after every 10 years.2) A vitally needed Car Recall system. Thousands of vehicles are recalled by car manufacturers across the world due to some manufacturing fault.

These faults can contribute to dangerous accidents and death. Yet in Pakistan, the car manufacturers seem to defy the ethical practice. Hopefully this will end after the policy is implemented.
3) To deal with the delays in consignments, the policy proposes that 50% of the total amount should be paid at the time of purchase and the remaining amount be paid after the delivery.

Delays exceeding 90 days will be subject to penalties.
4) The policy proposes that every vehicle be fitted with a car security system by the manufacturers without charging extra.

The effects of this policy if implemented as it is proposed will be numerous. More competition will enter the Pakistan Auto Industry bringing prices down and better cars in the market. The Pakistani economy will sustain healthy benefits and potential buyers will be more attracted towards cars at lower prices. Also different international models will be seen in Pakistan with better safety and emission features.

Great policy! I always wanted to take a car of my liking to Pakistan but it was too damn expensive. My only reservation is that strict annual vehicle maintenance checks like MOT test in UK should be done which is held by Department of Transport so vehicles regardless of age run smoothly!

last year b yehi news thi but kuch nahi hua, koi detail bata sakta hai 80% reduction se ek car ki price me kitna faraq parhy ga??
yar current duty hye 3 times to the car price. eg agar car ki price 10000 pounds hye to 3 times duty lag kay uski price 30000 pound ho jae ge. 80% reduction say duty kafi kam ho jae ge

car cost 5000 example
1% of 5000 = 5000/100%= 50
80% of 5000 = 80% x 50 = 4800
80% of 5000 = 5000 - 4800 = 200!!

or
0.8 x 5000 = 4800

My dear excited mate.let me tell you one thing that this 80% reduction would not be passed on to the consumer. This will go straight into the pockets of importers and Tax Officials.

Another thing is that if you bring this much reduction in import duty the local industry won't survive.
Govt can't do it for just car mad enthusiast like you.
There are other stakeholders which are people working in car manufacturing.

Every necessary law and check is already there but only in papers.

Most necessary thing is training before driving licences.
Pakistani drivers even don't know simple rules likes difference between solid and broken lines on roads. Pakistani traffic is just like severe diarrhea.

Agree that 80% reduction is never coming but the main mafia is so called local (but actually not local) auto industry.

We've heard these kind of policies in the past.

All they do is announce it earlier, scare the so called '3 Pigs' and secure more kickbacks for themselves, in order' Not to implement the policy.....

hahhaha I drove in Pakistan and have to hazard perception is non existence it is a free for all. motorcyclist have no clue whats around them. car drivers with decent cars think they are lord of highways. trucks are bent not even straight. one thing i saw was a old baba who pulled his cycle in front of a oncoming bus instead of peddling faster to clear out of the way he simply jumped of his bike and started walking with his bike

Tax will be decreased on heavy cars.
Prices of small cars like Corolla, Corona, City, Civic and Vitz will not be effected.

If some one is thinking about it. It will be a dangerous decision for car manufacturing industry in Pakistan. So better not to think about reduction.
