The internet is buzzing after a news broadcaster in Italy appeared to have caught Barack Obama exchanging secret messages with a senior US General just two days before Osama bin Laden was killed.
In the video President Obama is seen stepping off Air Force One at Cape Caneveral on April 29, to be greeted by Brigadier General Ed Wilson of the US Air Force.
Before he reaches the tarmac Mr Obama can be seen reaching into his trouser pocket and retrieving a small item which is passed to the miltary commander during a handshake. This routine is then repeated as Brig Gen Wilson reaches into his pocket and hands the US President an unknown item.
Internet speculation regarding what the two men may have been passing to one another has been fuelled by the timing of the unusual exchange, which was picked up on by Italian news channel Rai News 24.
The incident occured on the same day that the US mission which resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden was given the go-ahead by the President, as he admitted in his televised address to the American nation late on April 30.
Rumours of secret messages are rubbished by some web users who claim that the President and the General are simply exchanging 'challenge coins' - a common yet little known tradition in US military circles.
