]Arab Women Who Beat Up Their Husbands
We often hear about violence against women in Middle Eastern countries, but just like in other countries, the issue seems to be more complicated.
145 wives beat their husbands in a month in the Saudi city of Jeddah, constituting 20 percent of the annual rates of spousal violence, according to Jeddah police reports.
According to Fathiyyah Al-Qurashi, a member of the Saudi Human Rights Commission, many wives, in a state of explosion and loss of control, go for physical violence against their husbands.

Speaking to Arab News, Al-Qurashi said that all forms of violence should be rejected but also said that resorting to physical violence is one of the few means women in Saudi Arabia can express their anger
Al-Qurashi warned that there should be more family counseling centers established to deal with this issue before it gets out of control. “We should give more attention to this problem before it snowballs,” she said.
A family counselor told Arab News of a case where a wife used to beat her husband regularly and he had been keeping quiet until the wife beat him up in front of his in-laws. The husband then complained.
The counselor also told of another case in which a wife brutally beat up her husband for quietly waking her up for the morning prayer. The woman reportedly woke up very angry and started beating him badly.
The counselor said that he was able to reach reconciliation in both cases.
