As a Karachiite I felt dismayed about the failure of the last green-bus project (wasn't it launched by Nematullah admin?) a few years back. It was partly due to the shenanigans of the transport mafia, but also due to indifference by MQM and her supporters. This time the story is different, MQM is in charge and want to challenge the ANP's domination of the transport sector. What's the result? more CHOICES for the karachiites, and if you ask an AVERAGE citizen, he will LIKE to have more options. A clean and cheap means of transport is any karachiite's dream, and we know that only one party that can bully the ANP +PPI folks within Karachi.. the jamaati folks didn't have/display enough muscle, so they failed! it's as simple as that. Its all about POWER POLITICS in pakistan, the sooner we learn the better.

We Mahajirs are very Happy with MQM and Mustafa Kamal

only Punjabi Pathan have problems with Mustafa Kamal and MQM as MQM worked for the betterment of Karachi while Punjabi Pathans are only using karachi for making money like Dubai. The difference is they pay Tax in Dubai while in karachi pay nothing.

Resides on Encroach Land, Use Electricity by Kunda, Tap Water from Main Water line, Use Streets as toilets.

Shame on them.

after decades of ruin, the karachiites have seen a positive competition b/w Jamaat and MQM. MQM tried to outdo jamaat in terms of construction projects, which is quite a welcome change. I call it a miracle of democracy. MQM , despite their gangster mindset, are concerned about their votes, and want to prove they are a better alternative for the citizens of karachi..

as for the haters of Mustafa kamal, 2 questions should be asked of them:
1. is/was he a legitimate Nazim, elected by a majority of the votes?
2. did he deliver on some/most of his promises?

I think we all are pakistanis.. and we should develop tolerance for each other... If we believe in the last Prophet Muhammad SAW he forbade us to discriminate on the ground of race , creed, language and color... such racism not only violates his teachings but also tarnishes the Pakistani nationalism.....

Besides... MQM is not a muhajir tanzeem any more... they call themselves as Muttahida and claim to have vote bank in other ethnicities as well... jo kay kuch aisa ghalat bhi nahin hai.... If they want to come out of the ethnic ground and contribute in the main stream.... people should not force them back into the niche again...

Secondly ... I am proud of being an Urdu speaking ... and I love my culture, tradition and civilization... but for that I am not ready to look down upon others... and I respect all the other ethnic communities of Pakistan

As far as voting is concerned.. in pakistan rigging happens everywere... some times preelection and some times post election... this can only be dealt with a transparent electoin process... so if somebody has complaints against the election process... he should go to the election commission for that... so I take it for granted.. that if he won by the vote... he is the legitimate nazim..

second question... He has delivered more than any body else in the last sixty years... what else do we want...

There re other things which raise fingers at the MQM coalition govt.. specially law and order situation... which should be taken into account when we are commenting on the role of MQM as a whole...and the failure to control it (I dont care who is involved... but the fact is that ordinary man suffers) is a symbol of incompetence of this co-alition govt...

but this has nothing to do with the city govt...which is playin it s part well

^even if we take vote-rigging into account, it's almost impossible to come up with a scenario where MQM loses the plurality of the karachiites' votes. Jamaat was *only* able to win one election by default, since MQM didn't contest it!! Otherwise despite their horrible performances of the past, MQM would still pull off a victory (with or without rigging).

And now that MK has cemented his reputation as a competent mayor/nazim, I wonder if MQM would need to rig the next elections at all (provided the next elections to take place..)
