Pakistan has dropped former captain Shoaib Malik from its playing eleven for the first Test against Australia starting Tuesday at Lord's after the experienced all-rounder skipped a few practice sessions to be with his wife Sania Mirza.

Sources in the Pakistan team management said the officials were irked by Malik's non-serious approach in the lead to what is an important Test series for the Pakistan.

It was decided by the team management that it would be better to field rookie all-rounder Azhar Ali in the playing line-up instead of Malik for the opening Test.

Azhar is now set to make his Test debut along with another young batsman Umar Amin.

Sources said it was a difficult decision for skipper Shahid Afridi and the Pakistan team management to exclude Malik, one of the team's most senior players, from the playing eleven as Pakistan does not have many experienced players in the touring party.

However, Afridi was of the view that he would rather have youngsters giving their hundred percent in the Test instead of opting for a player like Malik, who is more interested in spending time with his wife rather than getting ready for the tough assignment.

Faisal Iqbal is passed his prime. Actually he was never there. I would rather see fresh talent into the team.

I am more than happy that he is not the part of playing eleven. He should not have been in the team at first place. But I guess, we only want to punish our politicians for fraud, for lying, etc etc. Apart from that, seb chalta hai, seb theek hai, seb allowed hai.

Shoaib test average is 36
Faisal test average is 22
Shoaib disqualification is that he is not from Karachi
Faisal qualification is that he is from Karachi and nephew of Miandad

Bro, What do you want to show here??
PCB didn't give a single chance to him. Is it fair?

Malik asked to concentrate on cricket

LONDON: Batsman Shoaib Malik may have succeeded in maneuvering his way back into the team as he has received a reminder from the team management to apply himself fully to the team cause.

A well-placed source confirmed to The News on Tuesday that the team management and even captain Shahid Afridi have expressed concerns over Maliks devotion to the cause of team. The decision to drop him for the first Test against Australia was very much the result of his attitude and lack of devotion.

Even the printed team sheets provided to the journalists at the Lords media centre Tuesday morning has the name of Shoaib Malik instead of Azhar Ali in the playing XI. The tour selection committee had no plans until Monday to drop him. Maliks fate for the first Test was decided after he missed a training session to give company to his wife Sania Mirza.

Malik was blamed for giving too much time to his wife who was accompanying him here. It was believed that sometime he even missed or come late for the team meeting a negligence that annoyed the team management and even the skipper.

The source confirmed that even Afridi has taken up the matter with Malik and asked him to be more careful in future.

Malik is spending too much time with his wife. We want him to fully concentrate on game if he wants to play long for the country.

The management has already taken up the matter with him and he hopefully will emerge much wiser after missing the historic first Test at Lords, an official when contacted said.
