[h=2]Counting calories and tracking nutrition has become a lot easier with the help of technology. [/h]

Counting calories is pivotal to weight loss; there's no other way around it. But with the right tools, managing your food intake can be as easy as a swipe of a finger.

Unless you're a trained nutritionist, making sense of and deciphering confusing product labels can be an overwhelming process. No matter how much experience you have with tracking calories, it can still feel like a daily grind when trying to accurately measure every meal component. So whether you need to know how many carbs a banana contains or the amount of sugar in a slice of pizza, technology is making it easier for us to know exactly what we're putting into our bodies.

As of late, I've been fixated on a smartphone app called MyFitnessPal (free to download on Apple and Android) that basically does all that grunt work for me. The programme, one of the world's most popular, has a staggering database of over five million foods, helping to remove the guess work from figuring out the nutritional content in any given meal. It does more than just provide details for products found on grocery shelves, it assists you with tracking homemade recipes as well.

Why does it work? Putting it simply: numbers don't lie. Many of us are oblivious to the amount of calories we consume on a daily basis, and that's because we don't pay enough attention to a label's fine print. MyFitnessPal tracks diet and exercise that is tailor made to your personal goals by encouraging calorie awareness. So whether you're looking to shed five kilos in a month, add on lean muscle or just need to maintain your current weight, the simple-to-use App can help guide you on your journey.

With a thriving online community of supporters and loads of vital information right at your fingertips, joining up might be the smartest choice you make today.

My calories count per day is around 2700-3000, and calories consumption/burn quota is fixed at 2500 per day (incl. daily 10km cycling uphill). However I was unable to reduce my weight (90kg), despite this regular exercise for last 8 months.

The Calorie Calculator can be used to estimate the calories you need to consume each day.
This calculator can also provide some simple guideline if you want to gain or lose weight.
Use the "metric units" tab if you are more comfortable with the international standard metric units.
