My 2 cents on the topic:
A government is known by its economic policy, rule of law and equal opportunities of all kinds to its citizen. Have you seen some one in Western Government publicizing making of a flyover by a party in Government. Building infrastructure is responsibility of the state and should not be used as a bribery to get votes. This is what happens in all MNA constituencies where the candidate say, give me votes because , mein ne sarak pakki karwai, mein ne transformer lagwaya ,es pe mairey naam ki takhti hey. Isn't all this the job of works department as all this money comes from public and not pockets of a political party. Based on one sarak or Benazir income support program or Sharif laptop scheme , which is a political bribery , awam is fooled to give votes for 5 more years. A governament is know by policies and not by populist schemes like Benazir IS, Daanish schools, flyovers ,laptop schems etc.
Now from Mr. Malick of News:
The chief minister of the largest province gloats over giving an Independence Day gift to the nation of a flyover made for “Rs2.02 billion only” (the “only” bit is part of the official advert, and not my pun). So what if tens of thousands of commuters could have availed a vastly improved bus service had this amount been spent wisely and not for reducing “the time taken to cross the Kalma Chowk from 8.5 mts to 2.5 mts.” (Again it’s the advert saying this.) Mr Chief Minister, I’d love to be around when you try explaining this priority to the thousands of families still living under open skies since last year’s devastating floods and now trembling in fear of this year’s deluge. A top-quality permanent two-room dwelling complete with a bathroom can be established for Rs108,000 only (pun intended). Now you do the maths with the Rs2.02 billion kitty. I hate to be a party pooper but, incidentally, around 100,000 primary schools, imparting education to hundreds and thousands of non-commuting children, could have been up and running with the same amount. Similarly, hundreds of thousands of mothers could have been saved from dying a needless death in childbirth-related incidents.
