[Pickthal 4:6] Prove orphans till they reach the marriageable age; then, ..........

[Yusufali 4:6] Make trial of orphans until they reach the age of marriage; ......

Although these instructions are for orphans but definitely conveying
that "Balgh" is age of puberty for marriage. So all discussion of marrying
children or less age are useless.
Moreover one more thing, the whole concept of marriage is
circulates around the "Haid" (Menustration). And this kind of stage
is only reached in a girl when she is mature.
If people cannot get guidance/ruling from Quran, then of course
fatwas by someone will haunt them.

RIYADH, Saudi ArabiaA senior Saudi cleric issued a religious ruling to allow fathers to arrange marriages for their daughters "even if they are in the cradle," setting up a confrontation between government reformers and influential conservative clergy.

Sheik Saleh al-Fawzan, one of the country's most important clerics, issued the ruling after the Justice Ministry said this month it would act to regulate marriages between prepubescent girls and men in the Islamic kingdom.

"Those who are calling for a minimum age for marriage should fear God and not violate his laws or try to legislate things God did not permit" them to legislate, Sheik Fawzan wrote in a fatwa, or religious decree, which was published on his website.

It isn't clear what legal weight Sheik Fawzan's fatwa would have if the Saudi justice ministry proceeds with its plan to outlaw child marriages. Saudi Arabia's legal system isn't codified, but because it is based upon an interpretation of Sharia law, the rulings of senior clerics can be used by individual judges when deciding cases.

The fatwa marks the second time in a year that religious authorities have knocked back a government initiative to move forward on social issues involving women.

Last year, King Abdullah bin Abdelaziz al-Saud pushed for higher female employment, suggesting that women ought to be allowed to work as supermarket cashiers, only for the job to be ruled off-limits to the gender by the Grand Mufti, the country's highest religious leader.
In the conservative Islamic kingdom, women aren't allowed to drive and can't work, travel abroad or undergo surgery without the permission of a male relative.

This is what happens when people get their teachings from petrol dollared unqualified half baked Saudi scholars. They will give any so-called fatwa which suites their leaders, egos (nafs) and their real masters.

Their late grand mufti wrote that the earth was flat!! The very grand mufti who issued a decree allowing the illegal invasion of Iraq justifying it by claiming that Saddam Hussain had become an appostate (?!).

this is the typical problem with tabloid journalism, especially as it emanates from radical revisionist ideologies.

1. fawzaan did not "issue a fatwa". a fatwa is a religious edict in which the scriptural sources have not identified a particular matter. Thus a fatwa is something that is a new ruling that is derived from the scriptural sources. As for fawzan's statement, he is preceded by all who exist, both in Islam and out of Islam.

2. The so called "decision" means nothing more than "permissibility". That means these parents can do so or not do so if they choose to

3. Moreover, in Islam, a marriage is only acceptable if the women concedes to be married by a certain man.
What does this mean for islamaphobes like revisionist progressives. It means that the young lady who has been arranged to be married with Zayd from her cradle, if she does not concede to marrying him, then the prior arrangement is thus cancelled.

however these people who practice religious malpractice by profession are either too ignorant to relay this information, or it does not coincide with the tabloid journalism of the media to portray orthodox Islam as "backward extremism" or "radical saudi ideology".
Such punditry is reminiscent of the recent tabloid media swindle of the Norway incident.

double standardz of western countries are amazing.....when a 11 or 12 year old girl gives a birth to a child....she breaks a record and gets her name printed in guinness book of world records and when a Muslim man marries a girl who's 15 or 16 he's called a child molester.....
