LAHORE The Indian military establishment has intriguingly begun working on a scheme to motivate Imams in the Held Kashmir in a bid to secure their support for suppressing the on-going uprising against Indian rule in the valley, reliable sources confided to TheNation on Monday.
For this purpose, 59 Rashtriya Rifles Forces, deployed at Riasi had been tasked by the Northern Command of the Army to contact Imams and convince them with respect to promoting Indias stance on Jammu and Kashmir.
Consequently, a group of 32 Imams from Poonch, Rajouri, Riasi, Jammu, Budhal and Kathua reported to the military authorities who later brought them to Amritsar, Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer and Chandigarh.
This group that held meetings with the Indian President Pratibha Patel and the speaker of Lok Sabha, has been asked to engage the Muslim youths to create confusion about the Kashmir liberation movement by initiating irrelevant religious debates, a political source in the Indian Held Kashmir (IHK) told this reporter by phone.
The sources concerned further revealed that the group is most probably would be used to cultivate contacts and sources for intelligence gathering amongst the masses.
The fact is that the political, as well as the military authorities have always been resorting to different machinations to pacify the volatile situation in the occupied territory and suppress the uprising against Indian occupation.
After perpetrating the worst atrocities in the occupied Kashmir that left more than 115 Kashmiris mostly teenagers, dead since June 2010, New Delhi is using this new tactic in a bid to undermine the freedom movement in the occupied territory.
India has been using the stick and carrot policy to suppress the movement for the right to self-determination. Besides many other ploys, India has been creating rifts not only amongst the people of different religions in IHK but also within the Muslims sects. Recent attempts aimed at positioning the Sikhs against the Muslims and creating Shia-Sunni differences is the manifestation of such conspiracies, political pundits said.
However, the history of past six decades stands testimony to the fact that India has totally failed to stifle Kashmiris voice for freedom.
The Kashmiri people are fully aware of the ways being adopted by India to sabotage the movement and divert Kashmiris attention from the liberation struggle to peripheral issues. Therefore, the ongoing plan of wooing Imams of Jammu and Kashmir is doomed to fail. Those taking sides with India will ultimately earn nothing but public resentment, as they will be considered as traitors. The Imams enjoy special status and respect in Islam and should not fall prey to Indian intrigues, a religious leader commented, when contacted.
