We lost only 1971 war. In 1971, our borders were changed not only in west Pakistan but we loose complete East Pakistan.
Rather than surrendering, Pakistan should have retreated to safe fortresses where they could have ensured no Mukti Bahni and could have advised all Pakistan sympathizers to migrate there. There we have a chance of giving a fight for an extended period of time. Also we could have convince China to provide us weapons support through Berma. Best areas to retain were along the berma border. For others, we simply do not have any chance.
But I am surprised that india was preparing this war for a long time, it was not a one day or few months of plan. Our military was sleeping. India was buying sophisticated weapons from USSR, our intelligence was sleeping. How this is possible? When you compare wars of 1971 in Pakistan and 1973 by the Egypt, modern miniature weapons were there, but we never intended to go for those..............
This was a political failure. Two unit system was a failure and not a good decision. But how can you justify mass murders and rapes of Bengalis even though Biharis and other non-Bengalis would also face backlash by Mukti Bahini ? Till March 1947 Nobody expected Pakistan to consist of two wings separated by over 1000 miles of distance... with Punjab and Bengal getting divided ;and U.P., C.P. and Bihar going to Republic of India in one piece. Later on East Pakistan (with 54% population) was treated like a colony for 20 years.
