'I' Movie Release: Vikram Starrer Set to Release in Pakistan

In what could be considered a landmark for the Tamil film industry, Vikram starrer "I" is being released in Pakistan. This will be the first Kollywood film that will see the light of the day in our neighbouring nation.

The dubbed Hindi version of Vikram-Amy Jackson starrer "I" will hit the screens in Lahore, Pakistan on 14 January, as per a Behindwoods report.
This is not the first time that an Indian movie is being released in Pakistan as most Bollywood films are released in Pakistan. In fact, the movies of Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan have good markets in the country.

Notably, Aamir Khan's recent Hindi release "PK" has collected over ₹18 crore in Pakistan. However, it is a big achievement for Shankar directorial "I" as it is set to become the first Kollywood film to be released in the country.

The underlining part of the story is that neither Shankar nor Vikram are selling factors in Pakistan. But the promotional materials alone have reportedly convinced a distributor to screen the movie.
Produced by Aascar Ravichandran, Shankar's "I" is made with a huge budget and it has easily become one of the biggest releases of 2015.

Meanwhile, the hype around "I" has reached the sky high in Tamil Nadu. The movie, which is releasing as a Pongal treat, is running on a good pre-talk and people are curiously looking forward to its release.
"I" has got a stupendous response for its advance booking and it is expected to break a few box-office records.

A US judge on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that accused him of “attempted genocide” over deadly anti-Muslim riots in 2002.

New York judge Analisa Torres threw out the suit on the grounds that Modi is not under her court’s jurisdiction after the US government argued he was entitled to immunity as a sitting head of government.
The American Justice Centre, a human rights group, filed the civil suit against Modi in September, accusing him of initiating and condoning the massacre and holding him responsible for the deaths.
The outbreak of anti-Muslim violence left at least 1,000 people dead in 2002 in the western state of Gujarat, where Modi was then chief minister before he was elected prime minister in 2014.

Modi denies any wrongdoing and the Indian courts have cleared him of all charges.
But the failure of his administration to control the violence and his refusal to apologise left a legacy of distrust and suspicion.
The judge’s order to close the case came two weeks before US President Barack Obama is to be guest of honour at India’s Republic Day celebrations on 26 January.
There was no immediate response from the American Justice Center.
The lawsuit had been filed one day before Modi visited New York and Washington for the first time as Indian leader.
The 28-page complaint claimed that Modi committed crimes against humanity, extra-judicial killings, torture and the infliction of mental and physical trauma on victims, mostly Muslims.
Modi, a Hindu nationalist, was blocked from obtaining a US visa in 2005 over the allegations, which he has always denied.
But Obama gave him to a lavish welcome at the White House in September. At the time officials said the suit would not detract from the determination of both sides to forge closer relations

The United States and European powers boycotted Modi for more than a decade after the riots, but have largely embraced him after his Bharatiya Janata Party won a landslide election victory.
US Secretary of State John Kerry held talks with Modi in India on the sidelines of a major trade summit on Sunday, hailing him as a “visionary” poised to transform the Indian economy.
Kerry was criticised at home and in Europe for choosing to remain in India rather than attend a march in Paris with other international leaders condemning attacks in France that killed 17 people.

BJP president Amit Shah, the closest aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was on Tuesday cleared of ordering police to carry out the extrajudicial killings of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife and his friend when he served as home minister of Gujarat almost a decade ago.
“I am of the opinion that the inference drawn by the CBI is not accepted in totality and he (Shah) cannot be charged as an accused,” special CBI judge MB Gosavi said.
Sohrabuddin was allegedly abducted and portrayed as a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist killed in a police shootout on November 26, 2005, in Ahmedabad. Wife Kausarbi was murdered three days later.


A year later, key witness Tulsiram Prajapati fell to police bullets at a village in Gujarat, prompting Sohrabuddin’s brother to file a complaint that the killings were staged.

ISLAMABAD: The ruling PML-N had to face the bitter truth about spiralling extre*mism in Punjab when Inte*rior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told a top-level meeting that the number of proscribed organisations actively engaged in terrorism and extremism in that province alone had reached 95.
During the briefing on the status of implementation of the National Action Plan to counter terrorism and extremism, Chaudhry Nisar said that law-enforcement agencies were proactively monitoring madressahs to check the spread of terrorist ideology in the country.

While an official statement released after the meeting did not include the names of the banned organisations in question, the new number was substantially greater than the total number of organisations listed as banned in the national security policy document the government put out in early 2014.
This shows that the Shahbaz Sharif-led Punjab government had failed to check the spread of such outfits, despite repeated reminders by the media about the militant presence festering in the province, said one government critic, adding that “all these militant outfits have been present in Punjab for quite some time, but instead of acting against them, the PML-N preferred to cohabitate with them”.
Officials privy to the meeting told Dawn that at the moment it was difficult to categorise the banned outfits that Chaudhry Nisar had mentioned in his briefing. However, they did reveal that most of these groups were concentrated in the southern districts of the province. But an interior ministry official told Dawn that the organisations had expanded their spheres of influence all across the province, which was quite a worrying scenario.

Talking about the increase in the number of banned organisations, he said: “This is quite a large jump, but the scope and types of these groups remain to be seen.”
In Wednesday’s briefing, Chaudhry Nisar also told participants that since the launch of the NAP last month, a total of 341 persons involved in hate speech have been booked and 251 have been taken into custody. In addition, 41 shops disseminating hate material have been closed and nearly 1,100 have been reprimanded for the misuse of loudspeakers.
Just in Islamabad, the interior minister said, law-enforcement agencies had picked up 180 individuals and formally charged 48 of them. In Punjab, around 14,000 suspects have been rounded up and 780 of them have been formally booked.
The statement said that the PM also directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to ensure that funding to proscribed organisations was stopped and asked the IT ministry to take steps to ensure the blocking of websites and social media platforms that were being used by terrorist organisations.
The PM said that the federal government would facilitate provinces and provide them all the assistance they needed, but stressed that they had to be proactive in their approach towards terrorism and extremism.
Mr Sharif said that a state-of-the-art rapid respo*nse force was being formed to tackle terrorism, adding that “this properly equipped force would be trained on modern lines and given better pay packages”. The PM also called a meeting of all provincial chief ministers next week for a briefing on the progress made by their respective governments on the implementation of NAP.

Bill Gates Foundation delegation to visit Pakistan today

PESHAWAR: In the wake of the deteriorating polio situation in Pakistan, a delegation of the Bill Gates Foundation will be reaching the country on Thursday on a seven day emergency trip.
The delegation is visiting at a time when Pakistan 's 18-year record of polio cases has been broken, while 303 polio cases in children have surfaced last year.
The delegation comprises of four members headed by special representative of Bill Gates, Dr Waqar Ajmal.
Sources at the Ministry of Health told Geo News that during their visit, the delegation would be meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
During their seven day visit to different parts of the country, the delegation will express their concerns to the Pakistani leadership regarding polio, specially in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where combating polio is a grave concern.
The Bill Gates Foundation has played a very important role in the eradication of polio across various countries, specially Africa, and its visit to Pakistan comes at a time of dire need when it is also expected that more polio cases will officially be documented.

Former RSS activist Swami Aseemanand gets bail in Samjhauta Express blast case

Swami Aseemanand, an accused in 2007Samjhauta Express blast case, was today granted bail by Punjab and Haryana High Court but he is unlikely to come out of jail as he is facing trial in two other blast cases.
A division bench comprising Justice S S Saron and Justice Lisa Gill granted bail to Aseemanand, a member of right wing Hindu group 'Abhinav Bharat', who has been in jail since December 2010. Aseemanand also stands accused in blasts in Hyderabad Mecca Masjid and Ajmer Dargah in 2007.

During the hearing on the bail plea, which was going on for the past three days, Aseemanand's counsel Satyapal Jain today contended that there was no evidence of the accused's involvement in the case. Only 35 out of total 299 witnesses have been examined in the case during almost four years, the defence counsel said, adding that he has been "falsely implicated" in the case. However, the prosecution placed the entire record before the court.

Jain told reporters outside the court that Aseemanand was granted bail on certain conditions. The conditions included that he will not leave the country without prior permission of court; he will attend each and every hearing fixed by trial court Panchkula; and he will not influence the witnesses, Jain said. Earlier, Panchkula's NIA court had rejected Aseemanand's bail application after which he had moved the high court.
On December 26, 2010, Aseemanand was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Haridwar in Uttarakhand for his alleged role in the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad in which 14 persons were killed. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had questioned Aseemanand about his role in the Samjhauta Express blasts on February 18, 2007.
