Family attempt suicide in Lahore; CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif announced one million rupees compensation

LAHORE: Three people including two girls died when a family of five consumed toxic pills in an attempt to commit suicide on Wednesday in the Shahpur area of Lahore.

Sources said that 40-year-old rickshaw driver Akbar took poisonous pills along with his wife and three daughters due to poverty.

They were shifted to Jinnah Hospital where Akbar, 10-year-old Nazia and six-year-old were pronounced died while mother Muzamil and 14-year-old Beenish survived.

Muzamil told DawnNews that they were upset because of financial difficulties and rising inflation and yesterday they had a quarrel over the issue after which they collectively decided to commit suicide.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif visited the family at Jinnah Hospital and expressed his regret over the incident.

He announced one million rupees compensation for the family and said the Punjab government will bear all the expenses of education for the surviving child. DawnNews

So the only way our leaders will help the awam is when they try to commit suicide. What about the other millions who are on the brink of doing the same ? How about showering just 1-2% of the money you looted from this country ?

and deprivation and suffering of this family ... which they would have been facing all their life .. is Ganja's fault ?

Depression exists on all levels in our society. Sadly some live with it other can't handle it.

It would be horrible for the surviving two from the family. I wonder if the mother was aware what she was doing ?? In anycase no matter what amount is promised to them , its not easy loosing family. Money wont complete the space.

i'm shattered with this news. How many innocent people are dying of hunger everyday.
Whom we can blame for this without any doubt rulers of this country who are ruling us.

It reflects on the state our society is, and it is not only politicians or rulers who are responsible for the state of society, it is people of the society who makes it up. It reflects on the real state and values of people of our country, it also reflects on our, people's, criteria for respect and honour......

I think it is people of this country who have failed, it is society who is responsible.
