Islam is the religion for all of mankind, and Allah has commanded us to convey it to all people. This can only be achieved if we are strong, and strength is based on faith and unity. Hence Allah has commanded all the believers to adhere to His religion and to be united, and not to be divided. Allah says:
Division, differences and disputes are the cause of the ummah’s defeat, as Allaah says:
Imam ibn Kathir, while discussing the meaning of ‘the rope of Allah’ in his famous book of tafsir, after first discussing the interpretation that it refers to a covenant with Allah, then brings the following explanation:

Unity and coming together are among the basic principles of Islam, and there are many aspects of unity in Islam, such as One Lord, one Book, one Prophet, one religion, one qiblah, one ummah.
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Verily Allah likes three things for you and He disapproves three things for you. He is pleased with you that you worship Him and associate nor anything with Him, that you hold fast the rope of Allah, and be not scattered; and He disapproves for you irrelevant talk, persistent questioning and the wasting of wealth. (Sahih Muslim; Book #018, Hadith #4255)
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Abu Hayyan but with this addition:" The Book of Allah contains right guidance, the light, and whoever adheres to it and holds it fast, he is upon right guidance and whosoever deviates from it goes astray. (Sahih Muslim; Book #031, Hadith #5922)
In order to achieve the unity of the ummah, Islam urges us to adhere to the jamaa’ah (the group which follows the Qur’aan and Sunnah). The Messenger ﷺ explained that the hand of Allah is with the jamaa’ah, and that whoever deviates from that will be in Hell. Allah has enjoined coming together for all acts of worship in order to achieve this unity. Allah addresses the ummah as one group in all rulings to indicate that they are one ummah, like one body. There is no difference between them; the commands and prohibitions are addressed to all.
"Rope of Allah" is Qur'an, whole Ummah agrees on it. Unfortunately, there are some deviated people from Islam which interpret the word "بِحَبْلِ" (Translation = rope) , as their Shia Imams. (source). Muslims should be aware of this fitna and stick to Qur'an as it is the rope of Allah and should not be divided.

(Qur'an 3:103) وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا ۚ
And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (i.e. this Qur’an) , and be not divided among yourselves; اور سب مل کر الله کی رسی مضبوط پکڑو اور پھوٹ نہ ڈالو
Division, differences and disputes are the cause of the ummah’s defeat, as Allaah says:
(Qur'an 8:46) وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَا تَنَازَعُوا فَتَفْشَلُوا وَتَذْهَبَ رِيحُكُمْ ۖ وَاصْبِرُوا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ
And obey Allah and His Messenger; and fall into no disputes, lest ye lose heart and your power depart; and be patient and persevering: For Allah is with those who patiently persevere:اور الله اوراس کے رسول کا کہا مانو اور آپس میں نہ جھگڑو ورنہ بزدل ہو جاؤ گے اور تمہاری ہوا اکھڑ جائے گی اور صبر کرو بے شک الله صبر کرنے والوں کے ساتھ ہے
Imam ibn Kathir, while discussing the meaning of ‘the rope of Allah’ in his famous book of tafsir, after first discussing the interpretation that it refers to a covenant with Allah, then brings the following explanation:
And it is said, “the rope of Allah” means the Qur’an, just as in the marfoo’ hadeeth ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib from al-Haarith al-‘Aawar concerning the characteristics of the Qur’an, “It is the firm rope of Allah, and His siraat al-mustaqeem (straight path).“
