Map of Pakistan would have been slightly different without Zia ul Haq. Good chunk of NWFP and Blochistan would have joined soviet empire. Pakistani army was no match to resist Soviets. Pakistani generals would have no choice other than to sign accession treaty to soviets. But Zia considered to stop them in Afghanistan with proxy war. If Zia would have not taken this step, then NWFP and Blochistan would have been a part of Soviet Union or an independent country.

In one sense it would have been very good. Northern terrorories and Blochistan have given nothing to Pakistan apart from woods and war. But do'nt forget these areas are rich in copper and gold (World's biggest copper and gold reserves). Many greedy eyes from all over the world are already set on them. Lets see how Pakistanis now defend them.
