If someone attacks you personally, such an act cannot be defended. but you can choose to ignore it or reply in the same manner. Your choice.

The issue is that the judge was not under trial, it was NS. so any contact of an under trial person with the judge would be considered as an attempt to influence the verdict in his favor.
