You can boost the signal of your wi-fi by using a can

I have tried FOIL PAPER TRAY trick on PTCL EVO USB (note its not wifi device its wireless internet) (as in my area v poor signals inside). It worked for 3 days at amazing lightning speed. After that.... PLEASE DONT ASK... (cry)

If you have android phone, you may download wifi analyzer in your phone. This software will tell u the wifi signals in your area, their strength and the channel number they are using. I am sure similar software will be available for PC also.
In your wifi router settings you can change your wifi channel which is less crowded.
Worked for me , previously in one of my room I was getting one bar now get two at least.

Do u have USB extension cable. If not buy one which is long enough so that u can place your wifi USB in a window or place where signals are best. Then make a whole in a foil paper tray (easily available in market as DISPOSABLE for mehndi & mayoon rasams).. Put your usb in it & hold it using tape or little UHU so it doesnot drop.
Connect USB extension cable to your USB WIFI & other to your pc or laptop.
you will feel great difference.
If you have other wifi device (lan card type RJ-45) then take normal aluminium foil paper & roll it on its antenna.
Find a best position or location where signal is max, try it.
(BTW my problem is that in my area only witribe & ptcl evo is working, so, so many customers & less bandwidth. Thats why they foundout my threshold is shooting, now they have applied capping on my throughput. My freind in PTA told me that...)
