Why are we wasting 30 Billion PKR in such times?

It has been announced by NDMA that they have ordered ten thousand ventilators from China at a Unit Price of 17,000 USD each !!! which is approximately 28 Lacs !!!
Is this massive import bill acceptable when we are planning to help the poor with food and our economy is shut down?
We can easily import basic components and assemble ventilators at a fraction of this cost.
We do not need world class ventilators we need low cost ventilators and many of them...
If we start making ventilators we can make more of them and in less time and money..
I do not support this costly step taken by the Gov and NDMA ......
Very poor allocation of precious resources ...

With 28 Billion PKR we can make more than one lac low end but fully functional ventilators, along with team of dedicated technicians that will assist in operation and maintenance during this crucial times ...

Besides we can use this amount to upgrade our high priority facilities ...
And provide good sanitary and hygienic facilities at the treatment centers ...

It is time to put out skilled and talented people to work not beg the Chinese and pay millions of USD ...
THIS IS PURE AND SIMPLE ADHOCKISM .. Highly disappointed with the GOP

Ventilator is the last resort .. before that we have to have
1- Steamers
2- Nebulizers
3- Oxygen kits

Yes, this is needed!!
Yeh Dua karain ke aisi zaroorat hee na paray.
Even 10,000 are not enough. This is for the entire country I presume.
The COVID-19 patients are requiring longer times on those ventilators than an average person would.
So, if God forbid things go out of control, this would become a great need.

No its not poor allocation of resources. Do you know all medical suppliers are booked for 3 to 5 years and ventilators are not available till next three years. Do you think spare parts will be available? Ofcourse not. Even car manufacturers are trying to build ventilators they are also not finding parts.

At this time of crisis even finding the ventilator is a big success. Cost is not high also because vetillators typically costs between 10k usd to 30k usd. For risk management you have tp buy medical resources that may be required or even may not be required.

Brother we do not need high end latest ventilators we just need simple ventilators roughly one lac ....
We do not have trained technicians who can handle and maintain the new ventilators ..
It is always good and safe and more economic to go the indigenous path ..
Local ventilator cost is 50 thousand to one lac fifty thousand only ...

We have 2000 ventilators(Alhamdullilah that are not being used a of now) at the moment and if we mobilize local manufacturing teams in all large cities of Pakistan we can start assembling 1000 ventilators a day in a mater of 1-2 weeks ...

Dear those 2000 ventilators are not even enough for routine patients needs. It happens so often that a serious patients has to be moved between several hospitals be due to unavailability of ventilators or doctors have to delay critical operations due to unavailability of operations.

In my opinion, you are over-estimating the R&D and manufacturing capabilities of Pakistani companies.
Having worked in the development of biomedical products and human implants, I can tell you that such electronic designs are safety critical and they need years to receive certification from FCC. It is not a good idea to use non-validated products in health-care sector.

Let’s assume that u can mobilize and r able to manufacture these quantities. How much will that eventually cost and what will u do with the assembly line and production capacity, when demand goes away. That is why I am saying, that countries should look into leasing. Additionally, we r getting a much better price from China as compared to other countries.

i am already supporting the step of importing ventilators because these are life saving equipment and should be super reliable. Modern ventilators makes jpb of doctors easy and save lives.
