Was it really necessary for the muslims to do this?

Did muslims really have to do this in India?

Also, how to make sure that these people who did it were actually muslims?
How difficult is it to grow a beard and put an islamic cap on?
Can a political goon get a disguise of a muslim to start communal riots?

the reason for this riot was due to provocation of muslims by hindu orthodox organizations. I would not hold muslims entirely responsible for this rioting but what better could be expected from a society living under poor conditions (poverty, unemployment, low education, discrimination) and constant bashing by media and people around them ?

This is the reason one of the website details about this incident:
"The Miraj dangal / Miraj riot had started on Anant Chaturdashi (September 3, 2009). Some pro Hindutva organisations tried to raise an arch on the Ganesh idol immersion procession route, depicting murder of Mughal warrior Afzulkhan by king Shivaji as recorded in the Maratha history. This resulted in tension between two communities. Due to the riots the Ganesh Visarjan could not be done on the last day Anant Chaturdashi and according to Hindu norms now it can not be done."

Thanks for the info.
You are right. Here are the arches/posters which include the pictures of the current day hindu politicians.

You have a good point but the Hindus on the other side are equally ignorant, poor and uneducated. Real Hindus and real Muslims are the ones who show tolerance to diversity. This is a battle between ignorants.
