Thoughts on moving Back to Pakistan

To be honest brother, it is a very tough decision as everyone else has mentioned. As for me I am 25 now and I moved to the west because of my parents and was too young to make the decision. If it was up to me then I would have never moved out of my own country. It is very difficult to move back when you have family, kids and what they want. It is a big sacrifice for the family as well. I never felt happy giving up my green passport for another one but again I did not have a choice. I am moving back to Pakistan the year I am done with my studies. I believe that education is the best way to give back to your community. I encourage all of you to go back and contribute to communities you came from. If we all start doing this then I am sure the future lies in Pakistan. I do not believe in complaints but rather actions. There are millions of people living in Pakistan and I am sure I can do that. I know my future wife would not want to move back but if she insists on living here then it is her choice but I have a debt to pay back to my country and people. Don't forget that the change is with in you. You have to make lemonade out of the lemons that life has handed to you. I am waiting for the day when I can turn in my current citizenship and get my Pakistani Green Passport back. I will be glad to travel with in Pakistan, if that is all my passport allows. Other than that the west has been very generous and has provided most of us the opportunities that many dream of. Respect the land you live in and love the ones around you. I will suggest you to move back if that is what you want to do. The opportunities in Pakistan are endless but remember you are the one to create them. Sorry for the long essay and I can go on and on. Good Luck again.

Personally, I know of a couple of people that have moved back or are in the process of moving back. Honestly, a lot of times you will meet people (especially those living abroad) that want to pacify themselves that moving from Pakistan was the right decision so they will constantly tell you (and themselves) that Pakistan is not a habitable place. Entirely untrue. I have met such people and when challenged with a few logical arguments, they've caved to the idea that maybe they are exaggerating a bit.
Living in Pakistan is something I miss dearly every day. The pace of life and the social norms are different. In many ways they much more enjoyable and liberating.
Of course, if you have family and friends in Pakistan and you are tired of your monotonous life in the west, the decision leans toward moving to Pakistan.
At the end of the day, a decision made on principles is something you can live with and justify.
Good luck!

I think this is a very interesting discussion. I left Pakistan long time back and after living in Japan and Singapore made Australia my home. In all these countries I have never felt that I was not welcome or was being discriminated. I have full freedom of movement to any part of the country, access to every benefit that I enjoy as a citizen, have the right to speak and express my opinion without fear of being persecuted, have total peace of mind regarding my safety, I have a sense of security and justice. All of these virtues are not due to the government but by the society and people around me. They are tolerant and accepting.
Unfortunately in Pakistan the society has not developed enough to this level. Pakistanis are an intolerant nation by nature. Eve if there is the best and most honest government at the top the people and society remains the same. People are discriminated on the basis of gender, religion, belief, ethnicity and cultural back ground. A sindhi income tax officer can never work in Bannu or a Pathan administrator can never work in the municipal office in Chandka. The huge class system of haves and have nots is dividing the society right in the middle.
For these reasons, even if the best government comes into power, I would never even think of going back. You become what your surroundings are. Where ever you belong becomes your home. Even after 100 years if Pakistan progresses to where Australia is now, Australia would have progressed even further.

Australia would probably move to MARS after 100 years. We will love our mother earth and stay here forever. We will get the land left by Aussies and Yanks.Perhaps the earth will be better and peaceful place without them.
[hilar] NO offence mate !

I wouldnt even think of moving back to pakistan. people are generally intolerant and there's is no freedom of speech. general mid set of people is corrupt. IK alone can clean the mess of 180 million people? not really...

I mean really do a survey of Pakistani's living abroad, especially the U.S and ask them how many are happy..how many are living fulfilled lives...how many are content and set on spending the rest of their lives in the U.S..sometimes I envy those who came to the U.S older, since at least they have a home and an identity..they are fully Pakistani and that is where they come from..for someone like me..I am na iss par ka na uss par ka...not American not Pakistan...I Know it's the classic ABCD thing but I was not born here..spent my childhood in Pak..My father left the country when he was 25 and is now retired and now has nothing to go back to...I think that's rather sad..spending your whole life in a foreign country and then not having anything left to go back to...I guess part of it has to do with having a desire to have a home..a home where I can go and from day one don't have to explain my presence to anyone..no one will look at me and ask where I am from..they will assume I am from there..can you do that anywhere else in the world but Pakistan?

Also, do we really think that things are going to improve for the muslim in the next 10 years? We have replaced black as the lowest class citizens...sure no one will harm you physically but you will feel akward and out of place..anywayz everyone has their opinions and I appreciate everyone contributing..From what I have observed...laug yahan par kaam kar kar kay burday ho gain hain...laikan kaam khatam nahi hota..woh kudth khatam ho gatay hain...aur end pay if you ask them why they gained..the really can't tell you anything in particular..

When the world get a little more chaotic..the economy worsens then check yourself and see if you still wanna make fun of your own country..the only place in the world where you don't have to explain your existence there..the only place in the world where no one will ask you where you are "really" from..The Japanese got rounded up in WII..they were here for generations

Just to be clear..when I saw I want to move back to Pakistan, realistically, I don't mean that I will just go and live anywhere. I am thinking either Islamabad or Lahore DHA etc kind of places. I mean I am being realistic to what I can tolerate over the long run. So i am not saying that I will go and live in any Gulli Muhalla..I wish I could, but I know that having grown up in the U.S, I probably wouldn't be able to tolerate that for too long. So realistically, Islamabad is my intended destination. Many expat pakistanis have moved there. Some who were born and raised abroad and are doing fine. Depends on where you live in Pakistan i guess. I am sure places like bahria town and DHA are full of people who have returned.

It's easier said then done, if you are single and haven't got any body to provide for, then i guess the choice is an easier one but its not the case with most pakistanies. they have families back home and in so many cases the are the sole bread earners of the family, mind you pakistani families are not small so i suppose its not easy to move back to pakistan unless ofcourse you are financially well off, but then again when you think about it, you have to bribe police officers, doctors, clerks, almost every body to get the simplest of thing done, i don't believe most of us who have lived in western countries for better part of our lives, can survive there without getting severe depression.
