Most people know Dubai for its massive skyscrapers and luxurious hotels, but few know that the city was built by modern-day slaves.

For months, the BBC's Ben Anderson hung out around the glittering, insane towers springing up in Dubai trying to infiltrate the community of expatriate workers who are putting them up.

What he found when he finally got in was that the jewel of the Arab world is almost entirely built upon imported slave labor.

just with money of British colony... The wealth was looted from all muslim countries and brought here...

But no doubt that Dubai is not paying to labour , because there r no rules of minimum income check.....

Thats very true. But the medis is very tightly controlled here. The newspaper print what is cleared by a board and to some extent that is better media policy. The labour are very very suppressed community.

i love dubai.Duabi have more Labour right than any other Muslim countary.Mostly Expolitaion done by Pakistani Indian and bangali people who Break the laws and exploit the poors.It is the worst thinking of subcontinent which make poor suffer more.Dubai dont give us right as westren countaries give but it is still better then any so called Muslims countaries

This is what i call classic misrepresentation of Information ...IN dubai you need a sponsors visa to stay in that country ...WHo do you think is sponsoring those "exploiting indian, pakistani and bengali people" ? - It is yours truly Native Arabs of the UAE ...quit lieing to people.

Yes, their are many good things to dubai. Like the law and order compared to most other Islamic countries is exemplary, Its even better than western countries considering homosexual considerations, in other words Dubai gives you a clean MUSLIM environment, women rights are good compared to other countries such as India, bangladesh etc .. But what in wrong in dubai is this slave labor situation, their visa requirements change everytime the wind changes direction, they dont pay wages on time BUT people still go there because the alternate EXPLOITATION in their home countries is much more tragic.

In other words the competition is between the worse and the worst. Pick your poison..their is no respite for the poor or unskilled

Having said all this I have the greatest respect for the rulers of Dubai because no matter what they do ...they care for their own people and have not atleast exploited their own people. They stand by their poeple and by Pakistan at a global level. They will always be our brothers BUT somethings definitely need to be improved. I think they should have labour agreements with Islamic countries and treat them according to sharia for starters.

It is your pipe dream to break Muslim Unity but that has and will never happen. Brotherhood between nations is defined based on factors that unite us as one people. IN Islam everyone Muslim is a Brother of another Muslim. This is the biggest brotherly factor uniting us. As far as commerce goes UAE is one of the easiest of destinations for Pakistanis, we share the same faith, food, and study the same arabic language in our religious schools as well. They eat beef, we eat beef to ..we have the same festivals ..so do they. But everyone has rules to their house ...so what ?..This is something they need to improve- labor laws.

Having said all this can you now prove how they are not our Brothers ?(bigsmile)

The ISI has reported this correctly, and this is well known because the Baloch people are not only natives of Pakistan's Balochistan, but also of Iran, Muscat, Oman, UAE and QATAR. Open up a map and see the closest Pakistani destination to dubai is the coast of Balochistan. And alot of these Balochis work for the UAE police and INtelligence. It is these elements who support their people in some cases because of blackmail as well. But this is not the official policy of the UAE Government.

Besides, the balochs are muslim...no matter what they do ...they have to live in this region and the majority of them are Patriotic people who love Pakistan and Islam. They are no threat to anyone ...Hence everything is all Good.
