Why do we have to reinvent the wheel, there are many countries smaller than us but have provinces. I myself live Osceola County in florida USA and work for the city. it is amazing what efficient civil system has been laid down. Some people have raised the question of having more parasatic minister ruling the roast. Not necessarily, we can cut and paste US country government model and get rid of the leaches. Only commisioners and mayor is elected but the rest of the county everyone is a employed by the county and the city. This way you generate local job opportunities and get rif of the red tape and free riders. We Pakistanis alwasy wished that our army will set up and workable system, but they also get bogged down and get corrupted. If qucik division happens, i.e converting 28 Divisions into provinces and lingustic bullcrap. Only Muslim (or which ever religion you belong to) and Pakistani period.To solve our problems we need visionary leadership but what we have is blind leadership.

I would definitely support the notion but country right now not in the shape to do it. If anything given the attitude of ANP, and other Sindh and Baluch separatists, we need back to ONE UNIT that Yaha Khan broke.
Punjab should be distributed in 4 provinces but only thruogh fair referendum acceptable to all. You know our country men. If a vote was taken and elected officials accept it outcome, then the very same people will go back to their constituencies and start burning tires. look at what happened in Hazara.
Also, Baluchistan should be divided into 3 provinces, Karachi hyderabad and sukkar into anotehr province. More provinces the better off country would be simply because they will have their own destiny with the realm of federal laws and constitution.
BUT THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. Wait till this corrupt PPP is gone and ONLY a good government comes it and we are strong.. Ridiculous as it may sound but its always possible that we get a good one. AMeen

It is unbelievable that a purely administrative debate has been turned into another conspiracy theory!
First lets talk about the need for more provinces.
The current set up is based on ethnic divisions which gives rise to nationalist parties which gain support by pitching people against each other. So if the divisions were to be based on purely administerative lines this would end the poiltics of many dirty parties. This is one reason these parties oppose the change in status quo.
I think we should merge some of the smaller divisions and form around 15 provinces from the 26 divisions.
|Yes it entails expenditures but thats where management comes in. The number of ministers and privileges can be cut down and we dont need to build expensive buildings immediately to house them. That can happen over time. They can sit in already built structures and use them efficiently.
Now this is all hypothetical but im just trying to say that this has nothing to do with breaking up the country in anyway! It is a better way of managing affairs of the state thats all!
Theres nothing un-Islamic in it that will bring down 'Allahs azaab' on us if we did it. Infact if this helps in managing our society it will actually bring Allahs pleasure because it will help lessen problems.
Again it is all hypothetical and I know the current lot of politicians is not up to it but we are not discussing that.

Secondly coming to the point of a Seraiki province, although I am from southern Punjab I dont support a province on ethnic lines but please dont insult the people of the south by saying the government gives them enough funds and its just the ministers who eat it all up!
Im sure you dont know but the development fund for ALL of South Punjab is less than the development fund for just Lahore!

A very good option is abolish the provinces and make Administrative divisions. Call them counties as in England or regions/Admin divisions as in France. Get rid of these provincial assemblies and all these worthless MPAs and their perks, privileges
I like it. this idea can be further fine tuned. I am talking about getting rid of assemblies and having like city councils.
