Pakistan and the European Union will continue to work together to encourage talks to ensure peace in Afghanistan.
Federica Mogherini, who is the high representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy, said on Monday that the EU values the role of Pakistan in the Afghan peace process.
She was addressing a joint press conference alongside with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad.
Pakistan and the EU have agreed to improve their partnership in trade, investment and energy for durable development. The two have to cooperate on the government’s priorities such as poverty alleviation, human investment and curbing corruption, she said. The agreements will be signed in Brussels, Mogherini shared.
Relations with India
“I gave her an overview of our relations with our eastern neighbour,” Qureshi said, while speaking about India.
“We can only sustain our relations through dialogue. India and Pakistan have to talk. There is no other way. We can’t even think of going to war, it would be madness,” he remarked.
Mogerhini extended her condolences over deaths caused by drought in southern Pakistan and the nine Pakistanis who were killed in the Christchurch mosque shooting.
