this is just one of the positive aspects of Zia's personality. people who comment against him, r ignorant of many such things. i had previously commented while answering a thread that there will be a day when the whole national patriots of this country will salute him. it is a solid fact and only a matter of time.

Exactly . If it was not Zia , I doubt Russians would have been Thwarted.
He was a pious man . He was the only Army General Who didn't drink ...........
Great Man .
Allah swt Gernal Zia Ul Haq Shaheed K Darjaat Ko Buland Farmayin Ameen
Can piety feed people?
so he didnt drink, OK , good for him and his liver.
What do you think about the religious extremism and AK47 jihadi culture that was introduced in the 80s. What about promoting a tolerant and pluralistic society where people could reason/argue and progress.
Is that important or being a non-drinker still the top priority when you judge someone. Ordinary europeans/japanese/chinese all drink alcohol but they are more honest in their everyday dealings than us.
And now we know that USSR was heading for a ending anyways because of the cold war overspending.
i really wonder that why u people always think that military rule muklk ko backward lay jata hay. tum logon k dimagh main ye dirt bhar dee gaee hay.i just want to say one thing for ur 2 comments and for those who say neuk bomb facility is not necessary but people should have basic need first. plz remember that there is nothing more important than GHAIRAT KI ZINDAGE when u have enemy like India as neighbor and when others r after u. if u remember Mr. Z A BHUTTO said HAM GHAAS KHA LAIN GAY LAIKEN ATOM BOMB BANAEN GAY. he started this who had given a slogan to this nation of ROTI,KAPRA AUR MAKAN. Alhamdolillah all rest continued this and ultimately achieved the success.so plz be realistic and be with Pakistani nation and not with its enemies. Can piety feed people?

Today's liberals have nothing to say against Zia other than hollow slogans of dictatorship and jihad culture (liberals do not know any thing about jihad either :) ). What they do not say are the facts and figures how Zia built an islamic society and stopped the iran revolution influencing in Pakistan. For me he was a much better ruler than any of these PPP, PMLN etc etc

All the nationalities you are talking about drinking is normal for them, IN ISLAM DRINKING IS PROHIBITED.
-Zia was the only one after Quaid i Azam who talked about Islamic law in the country.
- Kalabagh dam (Had it been build we would have lots of water, Electricity, but our beloved political parties did politics on this and are still doing).
-Under Zia, the previous nationalization policies were slowly reversed, and gradual privatisation took place. General Zia greatly favoured egalitarianism and industrialisation. Between 1977 and 1986, Zia could proudly point to an average annual growth in the GNP of 6.8%, one of the highest in the world at that time.
-During the time of Zia Pannu Aqil cantt was built and its very good step since you have border of india nearby, before it was difficult for army to reach the southern borders on time.
-During Zias time we didnt have any conflicts with India because he told Rajeev Gandhi while visiting India that any misadventure could lead to Indias destruction (Aap ki political government to bhikari hay MFN ka khitab day dia). He believed in equality with dignity.
-Even though General Zia had removed the Bhutto sentiment in the nuclear energy project, General Zia did not completely disband Bhutto's policy on nuclear weapons. After the retirement of General Akbar, General Zia transferred the control of the nuclear weapons program to Bhutto's close aide Munir Ahmad Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.Soon, General Zia promoted Khan as the technical director of the entire programme as well as returned to post of Science Adviser by appointing Munir Ahmad Khan as his adviser (How many times you hear someone who gives the top job to his staunch enemy).
-Zia was not corrupt, Zia was very simple man. I remember the story of someone i know who was working at steel mills that once Zias brother wanted to go inside steel mill but the gate keeper dont let him in and he told the keeper that he is Zias brother, even then he refused. So Zia ul Haq the dictator came to this gate keeper himself and thanked him for doing his duty ( yahan tu Nawazoo and Bhuttoism per poora khandan mazay kar raha hay).
-Milawat per sakth saza thi my father used to tell me that there were two instances in the history of Pakistan when he actually saw the Drains of Karachi coloured once when Ayub came to power and secondly when Zia came to power.
Kahan tak suno gay kahan tak sunaoon....
As for your comment "Zia was the only one after Quaid i Azam who talked about Islamic law in the country."
Pakistan was created by a westren educated, progressive and forward thinking Mr. Jinnah (who unlike Zia used to enjoy a few drinks now and then) . Pakistan was not created in the name of Islam. Pakistan was a country created to form a muslim majority state.
Jinnah did not gather people under his banner promising a Islamic shariah state with quran as its constitution (akin saudi/taliban style theological state).
Zia only talked about Islamic Law because he wanted to prolong his rule by capitalizing on support from Islamic parties .
