I have no idea what you mean by "molvi" - it could mean anything. But if you're talking about ulama (plural of alim i.e. scholar) then absolutely, an alim does have a special place in society in the same way as a doctor, barrister, engineer or other qualified individual. In the UK an alim is recognised as holding a degree in Islamic Theology and I personally know three alims who are also PhDs, a solicitor, a senior university lecturer and so on. Only in Pakistan genuine ulama seem to be bundled by the public into the same group as the frauds who pretend to be ulama but in reality are divisive trouble-makers.
