PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has decided to appoint new chief executive officers (CEOs) at three hospitals in the province on Tuesday.

Talking to journalists at the Officers Mess, Health Minister Shaukat Yousafzai said the appointment of the new CEOs will be made for a short-term of about a few months as the government is planning to announce a new health policy shortly.
The new CEOs were appointed based on merit for the tenure according to health policies, he informed.

He explained Dr Rehman Ghani was appointed CEO for Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH) Abbottabad, Dr Inayat Shah Roghani for Khyber

Teaching Hospital (KTH) and Dr Tahir for Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC).

They replaced Dr Umer Ayub (KTH), Dr Muhammad Zubair (HMC) and Dr Nasir Khan (AMC).
Yousafzai said the government is ready to hold negotiations with protesting doctors and urged them to immediately end their strike for the larger public interest.
Strikes are not a solution to any problem. We are ready to hold negotiations with protesting doctors over their demands, including introducing a service structure, and I hope the doctors will end their strike forthwith after this assurance.

He stated all modalities are being taken into account for the larger interest of the doctors, paramedics and other health employees.

Their problems will be resolved on a priority basis and we want to create an environment that will better enable them to perform their duties, the minister said. There is no longer a justification for a strike after the government has approved service structures for doctors.

Insaf Doctors Forum, Young Doctors Forum and the nursing teaching staff have ended their strikes, but some elements were using the Provincial Doctors Association to protest for their personal gains, he added.

Yousafzai informed the K-P government will soon unveil the new health policy and claimed it will address 80% of the problems. It would be aimed at revamping the health sector and restore the peoples confidence in government hospitals.
500 doctors and 650 paramedics will be appointed to provide the best medical facilities to patients at their doorsteps. This would help reduce the load at major hospitals, he disclosed.

Commenting on the dengue outbreak in Swat, Yousafzai said 12 patients had lost their lives to the virus while 2,700 had tested positive. As many as 276 dengue patients were admitted at the Saidu Teaching Hospital and 5,500 screening tests have been conducted. Out of this, the virus has been detected in 276 patients.

The government is closely monitoring the dengue situation in Swat and all necessary items have been sent to the district administration to deal with the outbreak, he added.
Every segment of the society, including the media, academics, and the ulema should unite to speared awareness on measures against the virus.
