In the words of Alama Iqbal.....................

Qatl e Husain (AS) asl me marg e Yazid he,
Islam zinda hota he her Karbala ke bad."

"Slaughter of Husain (AS) is in fact the death of Yazid,
Islam is revitalized after each event like that of Karbala."
------------------------------------
gharib o sada o rangeen he dastan e haram,
nehayat is ki Hussain (AS), ibtida he Ismael (AS)"

Story of the family (haram) is unfortunate, simple and colorfull.
It began with Ismael (AS) and ended with Husain (AS)"

Here Allama Iqbal is refereeing to the following verse of Quran predicting Zibhin-Adheem, the Great Sacrifice of Karbala:

And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice. Al-Quran 37.107

Where Allah accepted the sacrifice of Ibrahim (AS) and saved his son Ismail (AS) IN EXCHANGE FOR a Great Sacrifice (Zibhin-Adheem), the slaughter of Imam Husain (AS) who was from his generation.
----------------------------------------
Na Sateeza gah-e-jahan nayi, na hareef-e-panja fagan naye..
wohi fitrat-e-Asadullahi wohe Marhabi wohi Antari

Neither are the battle grounds of the world new, nor are the opponents who are fighting. Same are the ways of (those who follow) Allahs Lion (Imam Ali(AS), and same are the ways of (those who follow) Marhab and Antar (with whom he fought).
---------------------------------------
Islam kay Daman main bus is do hi to chezain hain
Ik zarbe yadullahi ik sajda-e-shabbiri

There are only and only two things which Islam have (or due to which Islam stands). One is the striking of the Hand of Allah (Imam Ali's[as] sword) and other is the prostration of Shabbir (Imam Hussain[as])

Sarmad I think we should also remember and contemplate who the real murderers were of the great Imam Hussain Razi Allah Anhu. I thought I should have avoided indulging in this highly volatile and sensitive issue which can cause offense to many of the users here but I think for the sake of the veracity and upholding the flags of unbiased historical facts I should say something in this regard. First of all I think all of us Muslims should try to come out of this lope sided and one dimensional thought process which has become the point of ridicule and laughter from our enemies and thats why they always paints us as too much emotional, fickle minded, chauvinistic, rhetorical and subjective in our approach to address our issues of the events which have some historical connotations as well.

As far as this matter of Qatal E Hussain and his supposed killer Yazids issue is concerned I think theres lot more in to this tragedy which was perpetrated by the enemies of Islam ever since its inception, about 1370 years ago. I can go in to further details of that horrible tragedy but would like to limit to the quotes of two Mujadidin (The revivalists) of this Ummah the likes of them who have never ever seen till this day and moment. First the quote of Imam Al Ghazali Rahima Hu Allah (d.1111 C.E) the Imam of Islam who is still being considered by the vast majority of Muslim and orientalist scholars as the greatest personality of Islam after the Prophet Muhammad Salalla Hu Alihi Wasalam. Here is his quote about Yazid Ibn Muawiyaa to whom all of our brothers consciously or unconsciously abuse day in and day out whilst remembering the sad and traumatic events of Karbala that took place on Muharram 10, 61 Hijri year;

He was a Muslim with a correct Aqeedah (Dogma / creed) and a complete Muslim and it is not permissible in the Shareeah to curse and abuse him.

Now the second quote is from one more Mujadid and Shaikh (The honorary title which has been bestowed to him among the vast majority of Muslim scholars of his contemporary and successive ages) of Islam the great Imam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 1328 C.E) the founder of Salafi movement and the man who is widely attributed for the formalization of Analogical Reasoning as acknowledged by the western and Muslim scholars alike. The most widely read Tafsir (Exegesis of Holy Quran) of our age is The Tafsir Ibn Kathir and here is Hafiz Ibn Kathirs (Who is a renowned scholar in his own right) views about the great Imam who happened to be his teacher as well;

He (Imam Ibn Taymiyyah) was knowledgeable in fiqh. And it was said that he was more knowledgeable of fiqh of the madh'habs than the followers of those very same madh'habs, (both) in his time and other than his time. He was a scholar of the fundamental issues, the subsidiary issues, of grammar, language, and other textual and intellectual sciences. And no scholar of a science would speak to him except that he thought the science was of speciality of Ibn Taymiyyah. As for Hadith, then he was the carrier of its flag, a Hafidh, able to distinguish the weak from the strong and fully acquainted with the narrators

Anyhow these are the words of Imam Ibn Taymiyyah related to Yazid Ibn Muawiya on the subject of cursing him due to his alleged role in the massacre of Karbala;

"And the people who curse Yazeed and other such people like him then it is UPON them to bring evidence, Firstly: that he (Yazeed) was an open sinner and an oppressor and therefore prove he really was an open sinner and an oppressor. As allowing them to be cursed also need to be proven that he continued this open sinning and oppression to the end up until his death. Secondly: Then after this they must prove that it is permissible to curse specific people like Yazeed."

Note:

Im not a supporter of Yazid Ibn Muawiyya as some people might imply from this post of mine as I myself consider him a very controversial and disputed personality in the history of Islam but I also seriously doubt about his alleged role and order of the brutal killings of Imam Hussain RA and his honorable household in the battle of Karbala in 61 Hijri 10th of Muharram based on some sensational hidden historical facts which I have the honor to decipher to some extent from the materials which Ive get exposed to in recent years. The whole purpose of this post of mine is to ask other fellows to always remove the veils of biasness and hatred when they comment on some historical events as the true events of history dose not align to our likings and dislikings instead they are based on pure facts and events which we as a true student of history should not twist and distort for our own hidden agendas. My whole purpose of this post is to call upon the brothers and sisters of Islam to think unbiased once again into the events of Karbala with an open hearts and minds and try to be objective & honest to point towards the real culprits and enemies of Islam not to just malign and curse the wrong persons just for the sake of our prejudice and hatred for some historical personalities which cant come forward to defend themselves in front of us.
