Pervez Musharraf hints at return to politics

Monday, 15 Feb, 2010

LONDON: Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf hinted at a return to politics in his homeland on Monday, saying he would do anything for Pakistan but the voters there must decide.

I love my country and I would do anything for Pakistan, the retired general, who was replaced last year in elections after nine years as president, told a meeting at the Chatham House think-tank in London.

He added: For Pakistan one would be prepared to do anything. However, it is for the people of Pakistan who need to decide.

Musharraf joked that, Im a civilian now, Im not a military man, I cannot take over anything, a reference to his seizure of power, while army chief, from elected prime minister Nawaz Sharif in 1999.

I have to come through the political process, through the process of elections. But I think its very good its very good because I think I will have that legitimacy which I never had, he said.

Musharraf did not say if he has decided to return to Pakistan to face trial over his 2007 detention of judges as he attempted to cling to power.

He had imposed a state of emergency and sacked about 60 judges on November 3, 2007 when the Supreme Court appeared poised to declare him ineligible to contest a presidential election while in military uniform. AFP

Pervaiz Musharaf will never ever come back to Pakistan as long there is an independent and free judiciary. He has too many murder cases on his head including bugti and Lal masjid women and children.

No matter how bad bugti was but he can not justify murdering someone like that.

I guess he is regretting it now ? or he is regretting the fact that he is in no such authority to topple another civilian Government.

I have to come through the political process, through the process of elections. But I think its very good its very good because I think I will have that legitimacy which I never had, he said.

Yap, he is admitting that he was a dictator who was looking for legitimacy in all his life.May be perhaps thats why he laid down in front of America, to get his legitimacy from the world by selling his countrymen and obeying the wishes of Bush Administration.

Awami khawhishat kay mutabiq London se hee Pakistani siyasat karenge. Because he can not face the common people of Pakistan who are desperately waiting for him to be found anywhere close to them to ask for the miseries he has left them in. 'Musharraf one of biggest stars of Facebook'

'Musharraf one of biggest stars of Facebook'

Islamabad, Feb 11 (PTI): Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf, whose popularity is quite unmatched on social networking website Facebook, has been declared ''Connector of the Day'' by CNN.

''Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is becoming one of the biggest stars in Facebook.
His personal Facebook page has more than 127,000 fans and he regularly answers questions and posts status updates,'' reads a note put up on CNN.com.

Musharraf, who signed up on Facebook sometime in October last year, has become very popular across the board.

The former military ruler, who quit in August 2008 to avoid being impeached, is currently living abroad.

According to Musharraf's own snapshot of his fans according to age, location and gender, he has about 100,000 Pakistanis following him on Facebook.

As of February 1, he also had 629 Indian fans, with 258 based in New Delhi.
Musharraf has been taking pains to answer almost all questions put to him by his fans and followers.

It was on Facebook that he first admitted he had made a mistake by promulgating the National Reconciliation Ordinance, a graft amnesty that benefited President Asif Ali Zardari. The NRO was recently struck down by Pakistans Supreme Court.

During the past week, Musharraf has been hounded about the case of Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani national who was recently convicted by a US court for attempting to kill American military personnel.

Several rights groups have claimed that Siddiqui was handed over to the US by Musharrafs regime.

In a message posted on his home page two days ago, Musharraf said: "I have already answered questions regarding Dr Aafia's case. I reiterate that I had no role to play and no knowledge of her arrest and being taken to the US.

Any aspersions being cast on my person in the matter are either ill-informed or malicious in intent."

Last week, Musharraf wrote that he supported Pasdar-e-Pakistan, a grassroots organisation of his supporters.

"The Pasdars have been holding seminars, conventions, press conferences and public demonstrations on issues of national concern. They are engaged in building support all over Pakistan and beyond."

As this organisation expands its membership of registered supporters, I urge you to offer your support to it." Asked why he had become a soft target of the media and about his opinion on the medias role in Pakistan, Musharraf wrote: "Some say that I am a victim of my own creation."

I am a strong believer in freedom of the print and electronic media. It was this strong conviction which led me to open up the electronic media to the private sector and remove all shades of restrictions on the print media, bringing to fruition, the long struggle of the media for freedom."

Musharraf said, he "did not believe in currying favours to get a favourable response from the media. Maybe I myself and my team were not media-savvy. Our opponents used all means abundantly available to them to influence the media."

Thanks for sharing this video. Could you tell me which date this program was telecast? Musharraf supporter's response would be really hilarious, like the speech of Zardari in recent 4man show.

It all depends you how u want to release your frustration, you may choose "laughter" as already chosen by Abbasiali. I am among one of the common man from Pakistan, so at least I admire Musharraf so yet another statement of anti musharraf's group that all common people against Musharraf become wrong and I bet when it matters you will see how many people would come to back him, just go and check facebook. All your corrupt politicians, made some deals in different aspects, and now they all "Musharraf kee tasbeeh padhtay hain", NS could not able 2 digest his niharee & Paye without abuse Musharraf and for this reasons he has Ahsan Iqbal & Siddique Farooque (lucky to be a politician). So Anti Musharraf group, please go ahead and show your frustration,,,,
Regards
