A six-year U.S. probe found that Pratt & Whitney, a key military hardware supplier to the U.S., sold China the software and engines needed to make its first-ever modern attack helicopter.

The Canadian arm of the aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney closed a six-year U.S. government probe last week by admitting that it helped China produce its first modern attack helicopter, a serious violation of U.S. export laws that drew a multimillion dollar fine.


At the same time it was helping China, the company was separately earning huge fees from contracts with the Pentagon, including some in which it was building weapons meant to ensure that America can maintain decisive military superiority over China's rising military might.

The CAIC WZ-10 is a all-weather multirole attack helicopter developed by the CAIC (Changhe Aircraft Industries Corporation) for the People's Republic of China Army. His first flight in a test flight in 2004 and entered service with the Chinese army in 2010. As in the conventional design of the helicopter most of the attacks, the WZ-10 has a stepped tandem configuration, the two airmen home, the gunner in front and the pilot back. Flight control of the airmen used to support one another, and the pilot can override the gunner commands. The bottom and sides of the cab are protected by the armor composite, like engines and self-sealing fuel tank, which is located in the center of the fuselage. "WZ" means Wuzhuang Zhishengji, which means "armed helicopters.
