His analysis about Pakistan's food crisis is so wrong.
Last year's flood harmed us, but same flood has caused a bumper crop for this year.
God bless Pakistan

Food prices are going up every where in the world. Canada was the only country last year where food prices did not go up as much as they were in other parts of the world but I have seen a big increase in food prices recently. Milk that was sold for $3.50/3 liters last year is now up to 5.49/3 litre. Decent quality bread is at least $2.50, used to be 1.50. An 18 eggs carton that used to b 3.25 is not 4.15. Tomatoes are at least 1.50 per pound, you could find them at around 79c/lb 4 months ago. For a person with average income and a family of 2 kids it means an increase of 30% on the basic necesaties of life. Electric enegery consumption rates are up 12% and water and sewage usage rates are up by 7% since last month.

The worst thing that every middle class north american has to face unlike Pakistanies is 99% of them either live in a rented house or a mortgages house and half of their pay is used by the rent or mortgage +utilities. In pakistan people have their own homes and rent is not half of the pay for middle class. Gas prices are also very high in canada. An average commuter spends around 500 to 1000 bucks a month on gas. Water and sewer bills are to be paid on bi monthly basis. Unlike Pakistan one has to pay for washing dishes, using the washroom and taking a shower. Every drop of water going down the drain means money going down the drain.

75% of the population of Pakistan lives in fertile lands where they can grow their own food and have plenty of water to drink and use for free. It is a blessing of Allah that He has given the muslims the most fertile lands of the world (Fabi Ay-e-Ala-e-Rabbi Kuma tu Kazziban). On the other hand the west has built its empire on artificial resources and are thriving. Pakistanies are pretty familiar with crisis and know how to servive. That is not true for people living in west. I do not think collapse of government mean anything to Pakistan. As long as the people of Pakistan keep their faith in Allah and treasure brother hood rather than enmity and act as an ummah. These financial crisis are piece of cake for them. May be it become a mean to put them on the right track. Our real crisis is our unawareness from deen and not understanding our real goals as muslims.

Gas prices are going up and we will be buying gas for over $5 per gallon this summer. Because of the BIG corporations, almost all of the Mama Papa stores have closed in the last decade and that has eliminated the competetion.
Now these BIG corporations are getting food from the farmers at all time low price, because farmers donot have too many entities to sell their product, and at the same time these corporation are charging an Arm and a Leg when we buy food from the store. So, in a NutShell, all the profits are consumed by the middle man i-e BIG CORPORATIONS. Anyone still would like to have ONE WINDOW SHOPPING??? Go Figure...
