You are right. They get paid for this. Even if they loose their lives they (their families) are financed and supported for this. I acknowledge that giving life for the nation is one of the greatest thing one can do. However, the civilian sacrifices always out numbered the military sacrifices both in peace and war times. And civilians (Pakistani Nation) do it only in love of the country.

Their Main Job is to Defend the Country and its People and they FAILED AT THAT MISERABLY

This is the Job of Cival Administration and in these kind of events Army comes in aid of cival power, because the civilian govt failed to handle the situation...

Please try to ack the great work done, rather than comparing it with ambulatory services ....

there were 20millions people displaced in floods last year. even if it would have been america or england they would have called army. no country in this world has any department that could rescue 20million people
