OIC and IFA call for Directing Muslims Zakat to the Pakistani People.

The Islamic Fiqh Academy (IFA) of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) issued a statement supporting the appeal of the Secretary General, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, to all Muslim peoples in the world to direct their zakat to the Pakistani people suffering from the effects of the floods which hit Pakistan since nearly a month a go, in compliance with the hadith of the blessed Prophet (pbuh) which says: "The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the organs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever".
The IFA indicated in its statement that Muslims should not restrain from helping their Pakistani brothers who suffer because of the thorny conditions and should not leave them alone to their fate. The IFA stated that some Muslim scholars approved that Muslims pay form the zakat of their money to the inhabitants of a country other than the country of the money, if money in this country exceeds the needs of its inhabitants. The scholars also approved the Muslims choice to pay zakat to those who are more in need of zakat money than the people of the country of origin, such as people affected by different disasters, including floods and earthquakes.
