The decision about whether or not to unban YouTube will be taken by the govt, he said.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Ismail Shah stated on Friday that it is up to the government to decide whether or not to unban YouTube adding that there’s no software in the world that can filter offensive content.
Speaking exclusively to Dunya News, Chairman PTA also said that 3G spectrum auctions will take place in next two to three months and arrangements for 4G license are also in process.
Answering a question, chairman PTA said that there’s no ability to issue sim cards with bio data in Afghanistan and that it is not PTA’s job to stop illegal foreign sim cards. He further said that the government should make the arrangements to stop illegal foreign sim cards at an international level.
Ismail Shah said that the decision to open YouTube will be taken by the government as PTA is bound to obey the government’s orders adding that there’s no software in the world that can permanently filter blasphemous and objectionable content.
It is pertinent mentioning here that YouTube has been banned on domain level in Pakistan since September 2012 when it was blocked over the anti-Islam movie uploaded by an American user. The protest against YouTube had turned violent in many Muslim countries directly attacking the US, following which, the US government had distanced itself by saying that the US has nothing to do with that video.
Reports of localized version of YouTube under an agreement with Google also surfaced in the recent months however no development on that is reported.
