Not at all its PM prerogative per const.
All other advancement are done in house within Army, god knows how many of those are fair.
How much does the COAS play favourite and chose for advancement colleagues he likes not based on merit.
Never once have I seen anyone complain that why was so and so made Lt Gen or Birgadier even when others were more capable.
But in the very end of career the fact the Civilian head of state just skips one position in Seniority table and he is criticised.
Its very unfortunate.

I don't think so Term of COAS is for three years and there retirement date was of LT gen. now they stand promoted.a new retirement date will now emerge.

I hope you just want to know this for general info and there is nothing wrong with it. But we should really not worry about it. may Allah SWT get good from him for the betterment of Pakistan.

I don't understand, why the hell do we need a COAS. Its not that army is going to fight a war or any thing and they have failed so miserably in protecting the lives of Pakistani citizens on Pakistan's own soil. If purpose of fouj is to kidnap its own citizens, torture them, and kill them, then a sub inspector from Thaana Shumali can do just that. So why bother. NS should reserve the position for himself.

Seems like your 'familiarity' with military life is only from far away.
Many generals are regular namazis. Drunken clowns like Parvez Musharraf or Yahya Khan are few and far between.
