LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif could not fly to Islamabad due to bad weather conditions and postponed his scheduled meeting with British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband, and instead flew to China for treatment of his ailing wife, Kalsoom Nawaz, on Saturday. He will stay in China for eight days.

Spokesman for Nawaz Sharif Dr Asif Kirmani confirmed to our sources the PML-N chief had scheduled a meeting with David Miliband, but he could not fly to Islamabad due to the bad weather.

The PML-N sources say there were other reasons for the postponement of the meeting. They believe Miliband had arrived in Islamabad with the agenda of persuading Nawaz Sharif to meet President Asif Zardari without setting any preconditions.

Sources said President Zardari was making desperate efforts to make possible his meeting with Nawaz Sharif just to fortify his weakening position.

Insiders claimed Zardari had sought the support of diplomatic circles, considered to be close to the Sharif family, to persuade Nawaz to meet him unconditionally. Saudi Ambassador Abdul Aziz Al-Ghadeers meeting with Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad last week was also part of these efforts, but it failed to produce results, as the PML-N head stuck to his guns.

Since he is not a part of the govt and he is not the foreign minister, Nawaz should not meet foreigners any way. this is a gross interference in our politics. And its all President Ghaddari's fault that he desperatelt invited Uk and Saudi to influence Nawaz.

But then again, we are talking about Zardari, the 15% man, arent we?

lagta hai key joteshion ki baat poori hogi. According to them Zardari will have tough time staying ion office. If he stays beyong Feb, 2010, he will stay full term, WaAllah-o-alam bis-sawab
