NATO supply restoration in Pakistan’s interest: Jilani

Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, Thursday, declared restoration of NATO supply in the interests of Pakistan, saying, it was must for pulling out of foreign forces from Afghanistan. He observed that positive development had been achieved in ongoing talks between Pakistan and United States over tendering apology over Salala Check Post attack. He would be leaving for New Delhi for Foreign Secretaries’ level talks on cross Line of Control (LoC) firing incidents, security and other outstanding issues with India on July 3rd. He also added that Pakistan had serious concerns over safe havens of terrorists cross Afghan border and had taken up the issue of cross border attacks on Pakistani security personnel with Afghan officials. “Hopefully, Afghan officials will take necessary measures to check militants’ attacks on Pakistani security check posts” he said while talking to reporters here at Parliament House, after attending Public Accounts Committee meeting. Foreign Secretary added that foreign forces’ withdrawal from Afghanistan would also usher stability there and Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan were improving and Pakistan wished to contribute in the stability of Afghanistan. He said that Pakistan was engaged in dialogue with US on tendering apology over Salala Check Post attack and positive developments had been achieved in this regard. Moreover, restoration of NATO supply was in Pakistan’s interests as it was necessary for providing way out for ISAF stationed in Afghanistan as it would mark ushering stability there. Secretary while expressing mounting number of cross LoC firing incidents from Indian side on Pakistani soil, said that he was leaving for New Delhi on July 3rd to take up the said issue along with other matters pertaining to regional security and outstanding disputes with India at Foreign Secretaries’ level talks. He said that visit of Indian Minister for External Affairs to Pakistan was scheduled on July 18, however, it had been postponed due to internal political developments of India. He apprise media men that Pakistani High Commissions in Australia and Indonesia had been directed for playing proactive role in gathering data about Pakistani nationals who had fallen prey to ship accident in Australia. He also observed that Prime Minister Pervez Ashraf was briefed at Foreign Office about Pakistan’s relations with regional and other countries as well as Pakistani foreign policy and PM expressed his satisfaction over FO’s briefing and performance. Replying to a question regarding postponed visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to Moscow, Jilani said that the postponed visit was specific to a conference, but hopefully, Russian President Vladimir Putin would come to Pakistan to attend four nation summit scheduled to be held in September. “Four countries include Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Russia” he added. He also observed that Pakistani delegation in Brazil conference took an active part despite dysfunction of Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim due to judgment of the Supreme Court.
