HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, LINUX!

From August 25, 1991:

Hello everybody out there using minix -
I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones.
This has been brewing since april, and is starting to get ready. I'd like any feedback on things people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat (same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons) among other things).
I've currently ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), and things seem to work. This implies that I'll get something practical within a few months, and I'd like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestions are welcome, but I won't promise I'll implement them.

Now banks and serious guys in IT don't give a sh!t to Windows. Linux has turned to be the best on security.

My favorite Linux distributions are Ubuntu and Fedora.
This O.S is simply marvelous once you get used to it.
Android O.S is also based on Linux
I suggest all my friends to shift to Ubuntu, this O.S is completely virus free.

Unfortunately, No.
Reasons:
1. the range of commercial applications (programs) available for Windows platform is not yet match by that for Linux.
2. Linux is for educated users. Troubleshooting in Linux needs more effort than in Windows (due to a large variety of distros).

bilkul theek kaha bhai. Kaafi softwaes Windows specifc haen, jaisay keh Microsoft Office (Word,Excel etc.), Adobe Acrobat/Photoshop, Corel Draw.
Laiken en kay mtbadel moujood haen Linux maen, e.g. Libre Office (for MS Office), GIMP and Inkscape for Photoshop/Corel; and PDFedit/PDFtk (for Acrobat functionality)

You're absolutely right. I have heard that with a software named WINE one can use Windows based softwares on Linux. Have you tried it bro.

I tried WINE some years ago, but I am comfortable with "everything Linux", so never needed WINE.
The last problem I had with Linux was rendering Urdu fonts; WINE can't solve font problem, but I solved that by copying the TTFs from Windows fonts (C:\Windows\Fonts) to the fonts folder in home directory (~\.fonts) of Linux, and restarted the system, and viola, all Urdu fonts were perfect!!

. A real darvesh of modern times. I believe free software is a sadqa e jaria and he was the originator of this sadqa e jaria with free software foundation.
