Perhaps you are not right. It is not a conversation between two private parties. The police is mandated to keep proper record in accordance with the law. In any case, as per laws such recordings cannot be used for an evidence in the court -- that's all. (Incidentally, with the rise of modern technology, the old laws have become obsolete. How can one stop or seek consent for recording of say text messages or digital conversation.)
Please do not divert the real issue - HR is interfering and influencing in a police case, and , insulting , threatening and blackmailing an officer - these acts are certainly against the law.
