Japanese firms plan to shift units to Pakistan from India

LAHORE - Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Hiroshi on Thursday said that many big Japanese investors are seriously planning to shift their units to Pakistan from India due to strong workers unions culture in India.

The Ambassador was speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar highlighted the issues being faced by the businessmen while Senior Vice President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, Vice President Mian Abuzar Shad, former presidents Tariq Hameed, Iftikhar Ali Malik, Mian Misbahur Rehman, former senior vice president Abdul Basit, former vice presidents Aftab Ahmad Vohra and Shafqat Saeed Piracha also spoke on the occasion. Hiroshi Oe said that the business environment in Pakistan is far better and it is a safer place as far as working conditions are concerned. The economy and infrastructure development are the priority areas and Japan government is focusing on them.

The Ambassador also stated that Japanese government has hosted investment seminars for Pakistan to further strengthen bilateral relations. “Japanese businessmen are being motivated for establishing business with their counterparts in Pakistan. He said Japan will continue to provide financial and technical assistance to Pakistan as we believe that this country has a great potential for the future.

There are spectacular development and investment opportunities in various fields as few countries are gifted with natural resources, the Ambassador said.
“Pakistan is facing difficult challenges which will be over soon,” adding that he will continue to strive to deepen mutual understanding through economic, educational, cultural and political exchanges.

Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar said that Japan is third biggest and one of the trillion dollar economies of the world and is an important trading partner of Pakistan as well as a major donor. He said that availability of inadequate trade-related data is one of the hurdles in the way of expansion of trade between two countries.

The LCCI President said that export potential of Pakistan is great which may be shared with Japanese businessmen and investors. Frequent exchange of sector-specific delegations can make the representatives of private sectors explore the opportunities of trade and investment in Pakistan.
Japan is an important player for peace, progress, cooperation and stability in the world and its role in assistance to developing countries and regions is laudable.”
Farooq Iftikhar said that share of Japan in Foreign Direct Investment in Pakistan is very low despite the fact that the country has a unique standing in terms of its strategic location and countless investment opportunities.

Meanwhile, a high-powered six-member Polish Parliamentary delegation, headed by the Chairman of Polish Senate, Mr. Bogdan Borusewicz Marshal, Thursday visited Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and emphasized the need for enhanced economic cooperation between Pakistan and Poland to boost trade and investment.
LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar presented the address of welcome to the Polish Parliamentary delegation.

And plus this is not only happening in the Auto industry but also the Call Center industry which has moved to the phillippines due to expensive real estate and other worker perks issues ..Pakistan Zindabad !

such a notion of moving businesses and factories from India to pakistan could be for two reasons:

1. Japan has trust in Pakistan despite the shape the country is in. They know that Pakistan's problem is temp and is only because western interference and imposing of the PPP govt on us

2. They realized that India will will gradually move towards financial destruction as US slowly goes towards disappearance of its might and financial prestige. An American astrologer has predicted the American power will be doomed by the year 2020. We have begun to see the signs. Canadian govt realize that as well. PM Harper was in China concluding a huge deal few months ago in addition to already existsing cooperation.

Once the US power and mighty dollar has met their fate, India will be literally in chaos, financially and militarily. PM Singh also knows it, hence the trade agreement with China. India is making friends with China to avert any possible takeover from China when US power is buried 5ft deep in the ground.

We just have to wait n see, but the sign has begun. I was talking to a lady from Ludhiana yesterday. She was a rich person in her hometown but she had to liquidate all her 4 'kothis' and lots of money and move to Canada. She described the labor market and economy I never 'seen in my whole life' Inflation is getting worse n worse. Labor who used to charge Rs500 for some work, the same people will charge much more for the same work.

This condition of our neighbor has been echoed by another Indian from Lucknow.

India will die because of its own imported prosperity, and exported braindrain.

I think very soon we will hear JAP govt has called the Ambasador back and replaced with a sensible guy.
Before you start writting hateful comments for me read it carefully.
India has much bigger domestic market compare to Pakistan.No way they will shift production lines to Pakistan which cant even provide half of its raw materials,parts,and above all Electricity or Gas.
Union problem is nothing new for JAPs and they are quiet cleverly dealing with it.As for as Maruti Suzuki incident is concerned its geting dealt with and plant is working back to full capacity.
JAPs are having major problem in China due the disputed Island issue but it does not mean they are moving out of China,for simple reason that China doemstic market is too big to leave.
They are not stupid to bring their Industry here when our own industrialist are going out of business because of shortages in Gas and Electric.Lawlessness is another major issue which keeps every one away from Pakistan.
Wishful think thats all I can say.

Take a look at things in Perspective. The Ambassador is only reflecting on what the Business community of Japan thinks about this situation. This is a not a political statement but rather a cause of concern.

Dude, India has a middleclass but in order to supply goods they need to be able to create them at a reasonable cost. But the way unions are acting up down there Toyota India has had a loss of 900 cars just from ONE incident this year. And this is not the first incident, many such incidents have taken place in the past. Which is why japanese businesses are in shambles.

Plus the situation in Pakistan will improve in the coming months ...first due to the installation of the interim government and then due to the departure of America. The japanese government knows this and hence wants to get a foot in the door at the right time !...simple:)
