One of the principles of charity is that you try to help more persons , this in medical field means that may be state of art equipment is not bought and rather useful , modern ,easy to repair , with adequate spare part , version is bought . Most Pakistani private hospitals own slightly used or slightly older model equipment , this not only reduces initial cost but more machines can be bought . some models are very rugged . Western machines are sometimes designed for twenty years of usage but generally more than five year old models cause problems .
I have noticed that when shaukat khanum made appeal for Lahore PET scanner many years back , they were collecting too much for this device , Now look at this list for peshawar hospital , some items estimated prices look very inflated .
To make excellence centres out of charity is not good strategy , that requires governmental grants . I have very serious reservations about equipment pricing honesty of those at helms of Shaukat Khanum , the list below of appeal strengthens that suspicion of mine .
