Imran Khan to set up cancer hospital in city this year

Karachi

The Shaukat Khanum Foundation will set up a full-fledged cancer hospital in Karachi this year, according to a press release.

Inaugurating a diagnostic centre of the Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) in the Defence Housing Authority on Monday, Imran Khan, Founder and Chairman of the hospital, said that the centre was just a step in the direction of setting up a full hospital in Karachi.

The inauguration ceremony was largely attended by the hospital management, the members of the governing board, and donors. Among the prominent guests were Justice (Retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid, and Justice (Retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim.

Dr Nausherwan Burki, Member, Board of Governors, while thanking the guests for their presence, highlighted the aims and objectives of the diagnostic centre and explained the salient features of the latest diagnostic equipment and facilities there.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Imran Khan said that Shaukat Khanum Hospital was a charitable organisation, the aim of which was to serve suffering humanity and offer medical facilities to the underprivileged. He pointed out that, to date, the hospital had incurred an expenditure of Rs7 billion on free medical treatments to the needy.

He said that the diagnostic centre would be equipped with a Pet Scan, incurring a cost of Rs200 million. This gadgetry, he said, was necessary for prompt and accurate detection of cancer.

One guy can make so much difference and he keeps proving it. Imagine if we allow him to have more resources in his hands.

Time for our fellow member Avatar and other MQM supporters to praise IK's efforts.

It would be a good effort...

But it would have been better if he could do it somewhere in the heart of Sind... Like Nawabshah or khairpur....

Why?

1. They are equally distant from all the other cities of Sindh...
2. This would add to development of these cities as well...
3. This would provide Rozgar to our Sindhi brothers and decrease their plight as they have to bring their patients to karachi for treatment (I hope some people would say this is Karachiites fault too)...
4. This might provide some vocational medical training to them too... otherwise they have to go to other parts of the country for getting good training....

I dont like to doubt his intentions but these questions just came to my mind...
Now do I have the right to ask...
1. Is he doing it for serving the country (like the first one) or it is a political stunt?
2. What was the reason of choosing karachi... In other places land, labour and facilities..... all are cheaper... plus he wont be bothered by the skyrocketing crime rate and intermittent shut down of the city?

In both the cases he should try making a hospital in Nawabshah or Khairpur.....What do you guys think?

Having said so... I am advocating against building of a state of the art hospital in my own city....

But I believe all the cities of Pakistan have equal rights to develop.... and all of us should contribute to that... and facilities should be widespread instead of being concentrated in one city...

Have your say...

I would like to have a sensible explanation from the PTI members specially? May be you can ask these questions on your PTI webpage and fetch me an answer!!!

or I might be [wall]

Being an MQM supporter, you have all right to question his true intentions, political or otherwise.
I suppose many will try to defend him on this question that his intentions are truly human to serve the country and not political. But let me tell you categorically, His Motives are Truly POLITICAL.

Whats wrong in it. Is MQM not doing all the propaganda for parks, roads and anything done in Karachi and all that is done with public money not from Bhatta or private funds, for their political gains.

If IK manages to build this hospital in Karachi (I doubt it, as MQM will do everything to not let it happen) without any public funds, people of Karachi will benefit and also people of interior Sindh, who are travelling to Lahore, at present.

Let me say,

No Ifs and buts about it.

It is purely POLITICAL and Karachi is the best place to do it.

By making this hospital in Karachi he will be serving the country as well as deepen his political roots in Karachi. When he starting his first hospital, he was not in politics, he is now, apparently the second most popular leader in the country at the moment.
So Better Continue

IF it is political.... then there is little difference between him and other politicians....

Even if it is political.... then I also have the right to question his political wisdom.... As according to you MQM wont let him build it.. or even may try to blow up his hospital.. then he must go and try building it in the heart of sindh....

I am totally disappointed with the response I got from PTI when I asked the intentions of developing a hospital in "Karachi"......

You guys are all the same...

You would also go to any length to malign your political opponent....

and also to any length to protect the mistakes of your leadership!

What is the difference between you guys and other brainless people who support their leadership's all rights and wrongs without giving it a thought (that includes MQM supporters)?????

Let me know when you guys find out...

That is your opinion. He is running a political party not Edhi Trust.
Moreover he has not asked for Public Funds, he will be collecting funds through donations and fund raising. Farq Saf Zahir Hai, if you want to see, he will give the city and nation a specialized hospital without any recourse to public funds. Please name a politician in Pakistan who has done that before or in the process of doing it.

Location of Hospital: His prime target market should be Youth of Karachi. There are hundreds of thousands young men in Karachi, who do not want to support PPP with Zardari at the helm of affairs, MQM supporters who are seeing the reality of their party and non supporters of any party, of course.
A rise in Karachi will be more helpful for his cause to spread in interior Sindh than other way round.
Undoubtedly there are more doctors and facilities available in Karachi in comparison with other parts of Sindh. Your concern for higher land cost and running costs are valid points but that on balance Karachi is definitely a better location for this project even for the non political considerations.

If MQM tried to blow up the hospital, hypothetically, that will lift off the veil a little more from MQM face and it will be a big nail in MQM coffin and it will gather all anti MQM on PTI platform, so MQM will not dare Khud Kush , although PTI should push them to the corner where no other option is left.

As far as i get the motive of devoloping a hospital in Karachi goes,it would be better off to build in Karachi because its a mainstream city, financial hub of pakistan, when the hospital was build in lahore, people started to say of sindh"Oh he is a punjabi after all,he discriminated like all punjabi social workers and politicians",as Karachi is the capital majority population of Sindh is situated her,the first name always comes to the mind is of Karachi, and plus in my opinion to gain some vote bank to in Karachi as he is strongly disliked in Karachi.
And we as supporters of PTI are liberal not closeminded,BUT we all as a nation are emotional so its a "NATIONAL BEEMARI",we all get emotional when we fear our belief system or our view point is'nt being accepted,HOPE u get my point!!

It took a bit long to get your answers...

So If I am not wrong...

The motive is "Khidmat" plus "political"

as far as Khidmat is involved.... I highly appreciate it.... but I honestly think it wont be of much gain politically...

In other words.... in "political sense" he is repeating a failed experiment again....

as the first one would have thrown Lahore in his jholi by now... I remember collecting funds for it as early as 1990... More than 20 years of initiative.... has not given Lahore (Let alone Punjab) to him.... and yet you guys thinkg this will significantly strentgthen his vote bank in Karachi???
Lets see!!!

@ GeoG..

If you would have read carefully.... I said in the beginning that my post was in response to yours and it starts with IF and it should not be taken as my general opinion...

We have to agree to disagree as my in opinion remains the same that he will have bigger political success in Karachi.

First correction of one assumption, IK is in real active politics for less than ten years and his message has only been really appreciated by the masses during restoration of CJ, so assuming that he was in politics when he starting building the hospital would not be correct one.

The young generation in Punjab, especially in Lahore has really started to get behind him but I feel he will have an enourmous success in Karachi because there is a big disenchanted faction of youth, who is want to disassociate themselves with PPP and MQM and IK can immediately benefit from their support and once the momentum got going.

Your IF is very iffy, dont know if you really supporting anti Imran stance or acting as a devils advocate.

I am not among those who would go blind and wont give due credit... I wish he can open a hospital and college like Namal in every city including Karachi... My best wishes with him...

I support MQM ... that doesnt mean I will support their each and every policy....

I am just an ordinary Pakistani....Not particularly anti-Imran or against anybody in particular....
