This is called Giant Leap in the understanding of Politics of Pakistan. I bestow my Kudos to Imran Khan. Bengali's certainly deserve an official apology from Pakistan. Especially violence against women and rape of 1000s of women is horrible crime of all times. Only right actions in right direction hold salvation for Pakistan. This would be one of the right step. May gods; dweller of heaven give little peace to our obnoxious souls.

Cefspan you got your facts wrong. I am not going to go in details but mate seriously truth wasn't in the reports, Geeneral sahib qurbani ka bakra banay , he was called ASIAN TIGER for his past record Bhutto family sent him after was was messed up and they knew they need to show Pakistan people that we sent our best man but he failed and surrendered. I met and heard from actual soilders who fought 1971 war and were prisoners, no one can tell actual account better than those people, our army cut supply lines of our own army fighting in bangladesh to pressurize them to surrender as General A. K kept saying he won't give up and will die fighting. Traitors were Bhutto, few other politicians and couple of generals back in Pakistan who had already made plans to divide Pakistan. Soilders didn't have enough food and water to survive, they were trapped and surrouned............so many heartbreaking stories. Coming to our army committing atrocities etc don't, there were cases but don't believe that it was on mass scale, few islolated incidents did happen but what Mukti bahni(RAW and trained/funded bengali defectors) did to patriotic bangalis and captured Pakistani soilders is untold and heartbreaking.

Report was a drama, there was another investigation under Mushi and findings used to be published every weekend on newspapers in Pakistan but after few months they just stopped it, should have read that reports.

Thank you, Dhaka! !!!

Thank you, Dhaka!

Outside it was -13C. The (hopefully) last snowstorm of the season was in progress. It was just another typical winter morning here in Toronto.
Inside it was a much more heated affair. Those who should be getting ready to greet the day were, instead, glued to their laptop computers thanks to the wonder of web streaming. All attention was focused on the quarter-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup being played in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The cheers going up in the house were deafening at times. The celebratory stomping on the floor was getting out of hand.
But sooner, rather than later, the job was complete. The Pakistan cricket team reached the required total of 113 runs against the West Indies without forfeiting a single wicket. Speaking with presenter Rameez Raja at the end of the match, the triumphant captain Shahid Afridi thanked the nation, especially those Pakistanis who flew in to watch their team play.
And to think that all this happened on March 23 Pakistan Day. God is indeed great.
But one thing, one very important thing was missing. Some very important people got overlooked when it came to expressing gratitude. Namely the upwards of 23, 000 Bangladeshis who filled the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium to capacity and cheered every triumph of the Pakistan team to the point where one could be forgiven for thinking that our side was playing on home ground.
Because all around them in the stands were youths who wore green jerseys and had their faces painted green and white. Passionately waving Pakistani flags of all sizes, they chanted Bangladesh Zindabad, Pakistan Zindabad. Some Pakistani fans did reportedly fly in to lend their support, but mostly the rapturous cheering for Boom Boom and his boys was homegrown.
Its not too late. On behalf of Pakistanis everywhere a heartfelt thank-you goes out to the wonderful people of Dhaka and Bangladesh. The jubilation and excitement you expressed as each West Indian wicket fell echoed precisely our own sentiments. We could not be there in person, but your roars of joy represented our reactions perfectly. Sincerest thanks to you all from the very bottom of our hearts.
By rights our team captain should have done the honours by expressing his, his colleagues, and his nations gratitude to the host city. Considering the history of our two nations, it was no small thing to watch the people of Dhaka wave Pakistan flags as they did. And declare Pakistan Zindabad as they did time and time again.
Yes, it is true that time heals most wounds and cricket is (or should be) above politics, but the generous spirit of the Bangladeshi nation was nonetheless a tremendous sight to behold.
Afridis lapse in good manners is likely explained by the (very pleasant) surprise of inflicting such a crushing defeat on the West Indians. Boom Boom is well-loved figure among Bangladeshis, and for his part the Pakistan skipper had already declared that playing in Bangladesh is like playing at home. He can be forgiven for getting swept away by the excitement of the moment.
Forgiven more readily perhaps than one of his worthy predecessors, Imran Khan. Never comfortable as a public speaker, Khan really bungled it in Melbourne, Australia when he delivered the victory speech after lifting the 1992 World Cup on behalf of his side.
That spectacularly self-centered I, me and my speech, in which Khan mentioned neither his teammates nor his country, and instead dwelt on the twilight of his career and his cancer hospital, continues to live in infamy.
One hopes that should the time come, Afridi will not make the same mistake. And as for this, his present oversight, he really should make an effort, no matter how belated, to thank the people of Dhaka for the way they supported his team.
Because where he and his teammates are headed next, the unwavering adoration of cheering masses is likely to be a distant memory at best.

Saima Shakil Hussain wishes she could be in Mohali on March 30.(http://blog.dawn.com/2011/03/24/thank-you-dhaka/)

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has demanded an official apology from the Government of Pakistan to the people of Bangladesh for the atrocities allegedly committed by the Pakistan Army in 1971.

Imran Khan stunned everyone during a live television show hosted by Hamid Mir on Geo News and Geo Super TV channels on Wednesday afternoon just a few moments before the start of a cricket match between Pakistan and West Indies in Mirpur, Bangladesh.

Hamid Mir invited Imran Khan in his live TV show on March 23, which was Pakistan Day. He asked a question to Imran Khan about the expected behaviour of Bangladeshi crowd in Mirpur. Imran Khan said that Bangladeshis will support the Pakistani cricket team.

Hamid Mir informed Imran Khan that today (March 23) is Pakistan Day and Bangladeshis will support Pakistani cricket team Dont you think that the time has come that the Pakistani government must apologise to the people of Bangladesh for Army operation in 1971? Imran Khan immediately agreed with Hamid Mir and said that previously he was also of the opinion that Army operation was a good thing because there was no independent media in Pakistan in 1971. Imran Khan said that when he went to England in 1971, his Bengali friends told him the reality of the Army operation. Imran Khan said that he experienced the love and affection of Bangladeshis during an exhibition match in Mirpur in 1989.

He said that the Army operations always created hatred in Pakistan and we must apologise to Bangladeshis. Responding another question, Imran Khan said we must learn lessons from our past mistakes and we should not repeat these mistakes in Balochistan and tribal areas where we have started Army operations on the US pressure. Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan is the first ever Pakistani dignitary who has demanded an apology from Pakistan to Bangladesh on a live TV show in Pakistan.

Throwing caution to the wind, Imran Khan (Carried away) by Hamid Mirs question (as per well agreed and planned earlier) on GEO TV during the Cricket Quarter-Final at Mirpur, Bangladesh.

History is always distorted.
Tell me if our elders took the reported action in East Pakistan at their whim then Why the Indian Prime Minister "Indra Gandhi" said that Jinnah's "Two Nation Theory" (Basis of separate home land for Muslims) has proven wrong immediately after the "fall of Dhaka"?

General Manik Shah who masterminded the entire War Plan was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal in recognition of his services by Indra Gandhi? Gen. A.A.K.Niazi (Commander Pakistan Forces in East Pakistan) laid down arms before Gen. Arora by handing him over his service pistol in front of Media men flashing camera lights (Witnessed by Millions in Pakistan on Door-Darshan Amritsar TVs LIVE coverage- in Lahore)

If West Pakistan forces were taking action against their innocent Bengali brethren then why huge contingents of Bengali solders were deployed /posted in East Pakistan (at that time) which remained silent spectators (Like General. Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani & ISI Chief, Ahmad Kamal Pasha-Today, when Raymond Davis was released).

On creation of Bangladesh same spectators Army men become active soldiers as Bangladesh Armed Forces and took control over the length and breadth of newly formed Bangladesh?

Bangladesh founding father, Sheikh Mujeebur Rehman arrested for treason by Gen. Agha M. Yahya Khan was in Mianwali Jail, at that time. Bhutto was so hungry for power that he couldnt even wait and came in Power as 1st Civilian Chief Marshal Law Administrator. Released Sheikh Mujeebur Rehman (Before the advent of Islamic Conference called in Lahore). Mujeeb flew (in a special plane with gifts) for Bangladesh & was seen off by none other than Z.A. Bhutto, himself.

Gen. Muhammad Irshad (COAS) brutally murdered Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and his entire family at his official residence in Dhaka and took control of power in Bangladesh. He was overthrown and killed in an Army Rest house in Chittagong and Gen. Zia-ur-Rehman took reins of Power. He too was assignated.

Now legacy of Zia-ur-Rehman & Mujeeb ur-Rehman; Begum Khalida Zia and Sheikh Haseena Wajid (Mujeebs daughter living in UK, when her father and family was murdered) are playing musical chairs for power in Bangladesh (Since 3-4 decades). Did some one really believe that it were our elders alone who are responsible for this divide United (East & West) Pakistan?

Similarly it will not be out of context to add that, its an absolutely blame on the citizen of Pakistan that they elect the Government. Leaving 1970 General Elections Pakistan never had free, fair and impartial elections. Z.A.Bhutto called early elections in 1977 being optimistic that he will win them overwhelmingly. Dream got shattered when Bhuttos own Law Minister Mian Akhtar got caught in camera while lifting Ballot Boxes of other candidates with his armed acquaintances. Next day the Photo got published on front page of almost all dailies. It initiated the strong movement against Z. A. Bhuttos powerful government on account of massive riggings. Bhutto agreed to hold By-elections in constituencies found rigged but the people struggle got highjack by opposition parties and consultations started between Government & Opposition parties nominated panel. Opposition panel was spearheaded by Maulana Mufti Mahmmod father of Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman (JUI). In the end after killings of numerous innocent personnel Maulana Mufti Mahmood & Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto reached an agreement and their picture in each others arm got published on full front page of daily JUNG. Modalities were being working out when then Army Chief, Gen. Zia-ul-Haq imposed Martial Law and arrested all the politicians from both factions and place them under protective custody in Sa'hala and Murree. When Zia-ul-Haq visited Bhutto after toppling his Government in Murree I was personally there at Agency (near Punjab & Sind House) and saw Zia-ul-Haq seated in the back seat of the black car while going towards the places where key politicians were detained. Afterwards, Army never held free, fair and impartial elections in Pakistan. Benazir, Nawaz Sharif both came in power twice but not with the mandate of eligible voters! Do not blame common men for the sorry state of affairs! Major criminal is Army Establishment.
