[TD="class: small_txt"]ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan will have a meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani in Switzerland in the last week of this month. It would be their first interaction ever-since the political atmosphere has heated up in Pakistan in recent months. The two are intimate friends, but the political developments have parted their ways. Gilani and Khan both will be attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) starting on 25th of this month at Davos, a tourist Swiss resort.
Ms Micheline Calmy-Rey invited Prime Minister Gilani last month for attending the forum and visiting her country. The invitation was accepted by the PM.
The organisers of the forum also invited Imran Khan to attend the WEF. Imran Khan has been given a slot on 26th of this month to deliver his speech on the economic situation in various parts of the world and Pakistan’s case while Prime Minister Gilani will address the form on the following day. He will throw light on the economic difficulties of his country, and the role global recession is playing in worsening the situation in his homeland.
The forum would be culminated on January 29 and at least 21 heads of the state/governments and renowned world leaders, including former US President Bill Clinton and Microsoft founder Bill Gates will attend it. Some 1,500 distinguished guests are expected to take part in the deliberations on different echelons in the WEF.
Diplomatic sources told The News here on Saturday that the Foreign Office has initiated preparations for the visit of Prime Minister Gilani, who will be travelling to the city with a brief delegation where he will have to confront sub-zero temperature amid profuse snowfall at very high altitude hilly area.
Imran Khan will be reaching the Swiss city on the day the forum would be commencing, and he will stay there for three days while PM Gilani will also stay for an equal number of the days. Both the leaders will have an opportunity to have meetings separately with the world leaders and specialists in economy attending the forum. The meeting between Yusuf Raza Gilani and Imran Khan has not been scheduled, but the two sides have confirmed their participation in the event where they could have sit across the table publicly or quietly.
The forum organisers are of the view that the contextual change at the top of minds remains the rebalancing and delivering that is reshaping the global economy. In the near term, this transformation is seen in the context of how developed countries will deliver without falling back into recession, and how emerging countries will curb inflation and avoid economic bubbles.
