FIA DG indicted in contempt of court case

Court says Amin Fahim also being named in the scandal among others.


The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the indictment of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Malik Iqbal for transferring FIA additional DG Zafar Qureshi, who was the investigation officer in National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) corruption case.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the DG had admitted to his crime and he had to be indicted. The chief justice remarked that Malik Iqbal spoiled the case whatever was entrusted with him.

He said that many people were being named in the NICL case along with Federal Minister Amin Fahim. The court said that Iqbal be indicted and produce him in court after framing charges against him. The chief justice ordered that the attorney general would work as prosecutor in the contempt of court case.

Malik Iqbal pleaded that he was willing to leave the work, but the court rejected his appeal. His lawyer told the court that Iqbal was retiring on July 14. The court directed Iqbal to file a written reply with the court.

NICL case: Arrest warrants of Qasim Dada and others issued

Federal Anti-Corruption Court has issued the arrest warrants of Qasim Dada and others in NILC case.


The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) reported during the hearing of the case that the accused could not be traced and the court could declare them absconders.

The court issued show cause notice to Karachi jail Superintendent for not presenting former chairman Aziz Niazi before the court and sought the reply on June 15.

SC orders charge sheet against DG FIA

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has directed the Attorney General (AG) to submit the charge sheet against the DG FIA in contempt of court case within thirty minutes on Friday, Geo News reported.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was hearing the contempt of court case against DG FIA Malik Iqbal during NICL hearing. The CJP remarked that the court had not taken any strict action against him but now no room will be given to the culprits. Law demands strict action from the court, the CJP added.
