Exports rise 6pc YoY to $1.87bn in Sept

Pakistan’s exports rose 6pc to $1.872 billion in September 2020, as compared to the corresponding month of last year, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood said on Friday.

Sharing the data of exports on Twitter, the adviser stated, “The export figures for Sep 2020 have shown improvement. As compared to Sep 2019, our exports have grown 6% to USD 1.872 billion.”

He, however, believed that there is still room for improvement.

“Although this is better than decrease of 15% in Aug 2020, I still feel that with sufficient backlog of orders we can do much better,” Dawood stated.

The adviser urged exporters to try to win more orders from the existing markets and reach out to untapped markets, besides fulfilling the current orders. “I am hopeful that in October 2020 we will have further growth.”

Besides executing current orders I urge the exporters to pursue more orders from existing markets and reach out to untapped markets. I am hopeful that in October 2020 we will have further growth. 2/2

It may be noted here that after registering a growth in exports during the month of July 2020, the country witnessed a sharp decline in exports during August. Exports clocked in at $1.58 billion in August 2020, which were 15pc less than the same period of last year.

Anything less than $2billion/month is poor because 2x12 is $24billion per year. Right now India is in crisis so all orders from India are shifting to Pakistan/China. Still we cannot break $2B/month consistently.

I think some exporters are keeping their export earnings abroad and not bringing them back to Pakistan. This is unfair practice because govt has given so many incentives to these exporters which allows them to earn foreign exchange. These exporters should bring every $ inside Pakistan.
