These dua's only work when one is following the laws of Allah in his daily life.

they would protect you from doing wrong or at least make you aware of that.
agar tum apni buri aadat nahi chor saktay tau achhi bhi na chhoro....aik din achhi aadat buri aadat ko khatam kar de gi...
